A friend from adelaide dropped off his nice EL XR8 for me to do some research and development on
This car is very heavily swirl marked, has terrible orange peel and is factory paint
Some acid rain damage too

So to make it easier, an application of 2500 hand sand followed by 3000 grit then prima swirl with orange foam pad has reduced the orange peel somewhat but made it easy for me to fix the damage

this is the spoiler (right side) as it came in

it looks worse with human eyes

diffusion of light by swirl marks and acid rain

now on to the front guard (after a light sand)

overall gloss from just prima swirl and Menzerna - no Final finishing or GLARE treatment yet

More pics to come

The whole bonnet will be sanded, compounded and then corrected and then Glare Zero, Reflow, Micro Finish and Glare Advanced on top for a true glassy reflective coating (made from glass)

That's jawdropping how well that's coming up.
What you've done there is exactly what my XR8 needs.
If it wasn't for Bass Strait I'd have it in for the same treatment.

Matts work is beyond anything I have seen, pity I dont have the cash to get this done to my car.....

Maybe Matt should think about getting a loan car so when people have their "holidays" they can come to SA, drop the car off, do some sightseeing for a few days and then pick their car up looking better than new.......

Matt you never cease to amaze me with the work you do.
Freak..... no ............. absolutely friggin awsome..... yes

g'day sean. cheers for that

well it shouldn't take long before it's defected. all I had to do on your car was apply Trim Dream and boom, so shiny that it's illegal

this might end up so shiny that it gets written off

Thank you very much to all who have posted
To be honest, it is raw talent, common sense and plenty of time
I am a very humble fella so won't boast of my achievements

the thing to remember is - 3000 grit paper is stronger than the heaviest compound or leveller and it is much easier to sand heavy acid rain, deep scratches, orange peel and other nasties out than to compound it out. saves paint and time that way.

friday will be the next day I work on the EL - will be sanding the bonnet much more than the front guard and also starting on the doors which have severe orange peel

Hey Slo man. colac ain't that far, just put the car on an enclosed truck/trailer and I'll do the job and have it trucked back. hehe

Australian muscle car sales are bringing an XW GT from sydney to store before the GT nats here in adelaide. I might be able to have them trucking over cars for me to do if my detailing demonstration impresses them

Okay what I used

2500 and 3000 grit papers
Prima swirl light cut compound and polish (silicone and filler free)
Menzerna Polishes (they are used after swirl with softer pads)

This was achieved with my new Makita 9227 rotary polishing machine
