Hey all, newbie here.Just got a DL last week and was in fair condition so it's in getting some work done.

If I was closer to the above poster,I'd grab all the panels, any chrome strips, door cards and back lights. But Northern Rivers is a bit far and freight would be a hassle.

I have a question about removing bumpers, and need to know if I need to disconnect battery,or anything else,to stop the airbags going off.I spent a few days looking around here and can't find anything related to it.

Here is what is happening to the LTD,(dual fuel..Impco sytem) at the moment,my girls have named her "Myrtle"

New radiator/cooling system including all hoses and thermostat, full service of dual fuel system and replace/check all fittings and diaphragms/filters,new shocks and springs, new tyres, full degas/regas of aircon and service and check/replace all fittings, sensors and stuff, all electrics checked and fixed if needed plus replace all relays and fuses, engine service and tune, transmission service, brake service (discs machined and new pads),get towbar fitted, talked to the trimmer and am getting roof relined, was going to get seats re-upholstered in leather but it seems I may not have to,and get them to throw a new windscreen in just for laughs. Then she is in for a buff and polish and will get the window tint removed and replaced.

Been in a week now and just scratching to get her home.

It had better be sweet for how much he is charging me!!

No photos but will take some after getting the seats done, which is not cheap either by the way.I bought the NL mockup off NCIILane,so will use the panels off that as the paint is a bit tired on some of mine, and the bonnet and boot have a sticker burn as she was a cab for a little while. The woman that had it before me got it in pretty good nick, but let it go downhill.

Organizing to get the other one here is a bit of a hassle, but am working on it and Mick seems to be a good bloke and is showing some patience.I'm about 600km away so will take some finely tuned planning.

OK.Had a few issues that had to be sorted.Turns out the LTD was in a prang in the past and the chassis was bent.Thankfully not too much and it was straightened, though I was told there was some rust in it as well there wasn't.Had tyo sort a few things with the mechanic that was doing the work,as he told me the car would never get registered again, but it has all been sorted and I have her on the road.

I had organized to buy a near complete car,but had to pull out of the deal, which really annoyed me as I was wanting the freshly painted panels.

Anyway,to date this is the work I have done,as well as the chassis straightened....New rear tyres, towbar and wiring, front struts, bump stops and springs, rear shocks and springs, new radiator, hoses, thermostat and housing and heater tap,new battery, spark plugs, leads, distributor cap and rotor button, airbox and filter,PC valve, new back rotors and pads and front rotors machined and pads, seatbelt receivers x 3,replace window control switches, fix cruise control, total overhaul A/C system, new windscreen, all rust repaired and sprayed + buff and polish, replace starting inhibitor switch, fix reverse lights, repair melted "D" signal @ alternator, exhaust rubbers, replace steering rack, check all electrical system, overhaul LPG fuel system, replace petrol tank and pump, but injectors leaking so getting new injectors and rails next week, weather shields front, dash mat,new 210W front door speakers and new roof lining. Also checking the timing cover when the rails are done as it is weeping coolant, and will most likely replace that and the timing chain while the cover is off.

I also removed the tint on the door windows and found the original tint underneath was fine.Back window I will get a professional to do as I don't want to stuff the demister, and I am in discussion with a trimmer about recovering the front seats, console and armrests. Will probably go for leather with a dark brown velour insert, and use the old leather for console/rests.Cappucino leather is very hard to come by these days,so will get as close a match as possible.Bought some chrome tape and recovered the front bumper strips. They came up ok as they needed to be sanded back, primed to fill some minor faults, and sanded again then tape put on.Will be doing the side strips with a bit more care and will most likely redo the front ones.

Back bumper has a crack that I am sure happened at the mechanics, but no proof so will be getting on to that later as well as a respray of the front one. Also the Cappa window switches were replaced, with black ones and when I asked for the originals back....they threw them out!!

Blown the budget well and truly, and had plenty ask me why.My reply....

It's an LTD!

It was on the left rear around the wheel area and I didn't actually ask the measurements..When they said it could be fixed I just told them to do it whilst they were doing the sills and minor door rust. That was $1300 and with the chassis the bill came to $1700,so it wasn't too bad.The mechanic rang me and told me it was stuffed, but after some words with him about doing over $3500 work,at that point, before it went to the panel shop I talked to the beaters and we figured it out.An apprentice told the mechanic it was rusted, but it was just a bit of surface stuff that was minimal.

Picking this up in a bit under a month:

Plans were originally to use it for a donor car for my red fairlane, but after having a proper look at it it's actually too good for that, especially considering I can get it straightened out for nothing. Respray will still cost money though.

Plans are to use my dad's old NC that is off the road as a parts car, and cut the replacement panel out of that to fix the damage on this.

Only Plans currently are:
Fix damage
Respray
Lower (on superlows)
Exhaust
Sound system
Tinted windows
Chrome DF/DL LTD wheels/EL GTs, depending what is around.

It's done about 280000, starts and runs beautifully and drives really well.
I'll be using the red fairlane as a daily until the ltd is on the road, then will fix up the fairlane properly as well.

What colour do people think I should paint it? I'm deciding between black or a dark purple (most likely phantom purple, like my BA was)

Black would look sweet Dylby! Keep us posted, especially after the respray. A few before and after pics would be awesome.
