OK, it's been a couple of months and I've noticed a few newbie's on here lately who drive the mighty NC's, so time for a BUMP i think :D

Here's my DA LTD.

In process of lowering it and other stuff, too.

Also, while there are other Fairlane/LTD owners with some knowledge here, I have a question:

I'm wanting to sell or trade my LTD for an EA-ED Fairmont, mainly because I still want comfort but I like the 'tougher' looking Falcon appearance.
What sort of price should I expect to get for it?
I bought it six months ago for $4000.
Spent (I was obsessed with the large appearance of the Fairlane, they were rare so I made a rushed decision) another $4000 on repairs, including an engine rebuild.

I've done the following too:
2.5" sports exhaust
$2000 18" rims
$1500 audio gear
Rear parking sensors
Custom CIA
+ a bunch of other minor stuff

I plan to lower it, spray the gray bit of the exterior (bars and door strips) body coloured, before selling.

The engine, driveline/brakes and generally A1 mechanically.
So far I've spent over $10000...

Keep it mate! You'd be lucky to get $3-4K for it as it sits now. You've done all the hard work to rectify the faults you had with it, so why sell it for a fraction of what you have put into it, only to buy another car which will more than likely have it's own issues and then you'll be right back where you started.
Once you lower the LTD, you'll be surprised at how tough they look. Have a read through my build thread.....there is a lot you can do to improve the old girls.
BTW, is it a 6 or 8?

It's a six. The V8 wasn't available until the DC/NC series one, I think.

And yeah I've looked through your thread, and the one you have on StreetFords.

I've had a look through a lot of Fairlane and LTD related threads, and although I do like the look of it lowered, It still doesn't look as tough.

I guess I'll either make do or get some custom bars going after it's lowered.

your correct with the V8 opion not available in the NA/DA... mick the NA/DA is an EA in a fairlane shell. very few options were available for them.

once you lower it they look s**t hot, and mick is right, you wont get 4k for a fairlane anymore, i paid 1200 for mine 2 years ago. they arnt worth that much anymore

Woops! My bad! :)
I am currently in a bit of a personal battle about whether to buy another lane or not. I have been offered a NA Fairlane Sportsman. It's just ran out of rego and has a blown head gasket and the trans doesn't shift into top gear (broken band???). Other than that it's in beautiful condition inside and out! It even has full woodgrain (including the cluster surround) which is worth the asking price alone. Was owned by an old man from new and when he passed it went to his son about 18 months ago and in his words he's "not a car person". so he has basically just driven the old girl until it died, and it has just been sitting in his front yard the past few months. $500........what do ya's think?

$500 isn't too bad, although it would take a bit of money fix it up. Also if it doesn't change into third gear, driving it home over a distance would be slow going..

Having said that, the main reason I bought my LTD in the mechanical condition it was in was because it was both rare, and the interior looked like it was brand new.
I'm guessing the Sportsman isn't nearly as common as the Fairlane, which is a good thing.

Personally, I wouldn't pay $500 if i was just going to strip it of parts, namely the woodgrain dash. But if you were going to be using other bits/fixing it up (or even re-selling it's un-used parts) then your new dash would look nice :D.

Won't be driving it home, it's on the central coast about 1 hr drive up the F3. Have priced Car Carrier @ $75 for 6 hours.
The purpose of the car is for the missus. She has never gotten over me taking the lane off her and still wants one of her own.
I have a spare trans, so that's no biggie and the head gasket is a piece of cake, I even have a 3.9L donor motor out of my EB if needed. (I have 2 EB Boxies + the "LTD") so no shortage of spares.
As for the woodgrain, that will be going in the "LTD" :D

Here it is. Winning bidder has gone AWOL and as I was the next highest bidder, it has been offered to me as a second chance offer!
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... TQ:AU:1123
As you can see, it is a very unique looking Lane, I can't say I've seen one around like it.
Oh! what a nasty habit I have developed :?
