Grr, I just typed a whole thing in the "Quick Reply" box and it gave me "You must enter a message before posting" and my message vanished. Fun.
Anyhow. Quick bit of maths suggests that moving to a new, small engined car, will only save you around $1500-$2000 a year (going on one tank of fuel a week, for a nice average). So you'd have to have the car for at least five years, closer to ten, to even begin saving money. It's probably more economical in the short term to grab an older V8 while they're so freakin' cheap due to fuel prices and live it up a bit, really.

Or have two cars, ones a project that doesnt matter how much fuel it uses, and the other is LPG based.
My EL is as cheap to run now as a Toyota Prius, and I payed less than 10% for it.

well its sad to hear u got rid of ur falcon but it is half a wise decision. though u save maybe 2000 on petrol........u still gotta pay out for fixing the car and buying parts for it. correct me if im wrong but arent focus parts more expensive then aussie falcons?
if u really want to save petrol catch public transport.....unless ur in melbourne shocker phong =P~

Id rather drive my Fairmont V8... My car LOVES petrol... But if driving it like an old man, i can get 620ks out of a tank... I thought that was pretty good
You would also be pushing the 4cyl harder to get the same performance as the 6cyl... in turn putting more petrol though the 4cyl...

im seriously considering gettting a old 84 astra to run round in cause its cheap to buy and petty is stuff all. Me and a friend thrashed his car all night, like 140km/h, from like 9 at night till 5 in the morning and that used 1/4 of a tank. Thats soooo good. He puts like $10 in a week and does heaps of drivig and its fine.
but when i drive like a sensible person i get 11.5l to the 100k but if i drive like a teenager i get close to 17l.

Scotchbo, MY AUII is for sale now as well. I'm looking at buying a new fiesta. I've driven them at work and they're really good cars, they feel quite punchy too and look great once you chuck a set of mags on em. Post pics of the new focus!

Man I saw that on msn and I thought someone had bagged your AU and you were having a joke, lol. And with regards to what I said on the first page of this thread, I now feel badly about my comments, lol. Driving around in my car, the condition it's in, the memories in mine and my dad's old EF Fairmont, the comfort, the size... how could I sell it any time soon, I think not.

I am getting LPG for the NL Fairlane in a couple of days. That would be good as I am heading up to Albury for the Mother's Day weekend.

how much did the upgrade to the echo cost u?
ppl here probably know what i think of focus's, and its worse now that theyre built in South Africa. We just waited 2 months for a CV Shaft for a current model focus because the "factory was out of stock" that said they seem to be a far better buy then the old model, which was gutless and expensive to maintain. lets hope they've fixed the brake wear hey? |

Just do what i did and it will fix all the fuel probs, get a job that pays more than a grand a week (take home) that way you can afford to live and drive with a heavier foot.
