Its illegal.
Insurance is void if somebody crashes into you and YOU will be liable for all injury and repair costs. It also makes you look like a complete idiot. Leave tinting to retarded ricers. |

Thing is though, chances of them noticing a slight tint are very low. Although anything more than a light coat is just stupid as brake lights are there for a reason! What ever you do, don't tint headlights, useless at night! |

Its not only light emission that is affected by morons tinting their taillights. Firstly, that EF above looks silly with the tinted lights.
Secondly, the biggest issue with the tint is it doubly reduces the effectiveness of the internal reflectors. Since the tint reduces the amount of light going OUT of the lamp assembly, it reduces the same amount of light going in AND back out again. So your reflectors are affected twice a badly. Now, if you're broken down with a flat battery on some dark highway, no reflectors, you're as good as gone as people wont see you. Tail light tinting is one law I very strongly agree with. Why impair the ability of average drivers who have a lower driving ability than a monkey from seeing your brake lights or reflectors at night? I sincerely hope people with tinted tail lights get defected and fined before someone else causes an accident and you get blamed due to your dumb modification. |

Here is a pic of my Taillights tinted with before and afters. l only slightly tinted with "NightShades" The only problem with this is the gloss goes of the plastic. But all the lights come up just as well as before. Like I said I only tinted them slightly and not over the top like you see on some wanker cars

nightshades is absoulte junk. one of the worst things on the marked as far as im concerened. not only does it reduce visibility of ur brake lights but it also reduces the gloss of them and makes them look dirty and usualy irregular in color. not to mention it can destory some plastics.
if you must use it then i sugest u have the dosh for a spare set of lights handy. |

{USERNAME} wrote: Just on the topic of tinted tail lights.... The FC or FD LTD's i think had pretty dark tail lights stock... more than sevearly in fact. How are they not illegal than?
Because Ford bothered to ensure they're ADR compliant. Same goes with the VL turbo taillights - they're much darker than the std VL ones. Did that silver fairmont go through ADR testing to ensure the tail lights were legal? Intentionally hindering the performance of a primary safety device on your vehicle is one of the absolute dumbest things that a person can do to their car. |

They are done on my car (only 2 coats) and it looks really effective against the bright red paint.
Its an old picture, but you can see how they're only a shade darker than standard. I will admit though, too dark does look nasty!
