i have custom cut coloured tint as well as a 15% and a 50% layer which acording to my mechanic is the darkest hes ever seen and he wasnt going to pass rego. but when you are in the car it isnt that dark lol

i have custom cut tinting for the sponsors of the car ill try and get some pix up, it took 4 days to cut and put on lol and 4 weeks of "no windows down" before it was finished

from memory a minimum of 25% light must pass through the window and obviously the front windsheild can not be tinted

Is the percentage you guys are talking about the amount of light that gets in and not the amount of light it stops?

When talking tints, 20% for instance allows 20% of light to pass through. In QLD 35% is the legal limit, but I got 20% to keep it cooler and a bit of privacy as Mechan1k stated.

I have never had rego issues with 20% but in QLD cars dont go ove rhte pits every year.

No issues with rear demister either.

I'd be more worried about the event of an accident and not being paid out a claim rather than being picked up on the road for illegal tint.

I think in NSW the legal limit is 20% anyway so you should be right with it

Ok, a quick search on google found this for NSW, this picture was created by the RTA. Also, if you have a car that has less than 35% tint, then the car is unroadworthy due to an illegal modification. This means that all insurance on the car could be void, and this includes Compulsory third party. As such, you could crash into another car, and injure others, and be fronted with the bill for their hospital fees. Or, your third party property could be void, and you will be making repayments on that $70 000 dollar HSV you just totalled for the rest of your life. All this because your car is unroadworthy.

What is the possibility of the insurance companies finding out you ask? well, it's not that high i suppose, but given their reputation for dodging claims whenever possible, I would prefer to have a slightly warmer car and have people be able to see into my car than fronting the bill for someone elses medical bills.

Well said, but if a company is happy to tint your car illegally.
Be rest-assured they would end up pickin up the tab. Its there responsibility, they are the specialiasts, they need to follow the legislation in Aust. We are simply the consumer,
Carlos,

i too have 20% on my barra, solar tints 'black onix', i reckon its a GREAT tint, it blocks out a lot of the brightness and heat from the sun, although it is pretty expensive for tint, kinda ummed and rrr-ed about it myself, but tis the only place i could get 20% from..

i dunno i think il stick to 35% all over, being young and all, i cant afford to have void insurance if anything happens. theres enough stuff on the car i havent declared, but il be doing it soon

The Black Onix, ISN'T 20%. It looks it from the outside, but it meets the 35% VLT from the inside. That's why it more expensive, it's a special multi layer tint. I've got it myself, and only got it because SolarTint said it was perfectly legal - and they supply a receipt so they are then legally responsible if it's not. Becareful of places that'll do a tint 'cash in hand, no receipt' cause it's most definately illegal.

But yeah, thumbs up to it. Great stuff.
