how do i remove this s**t!
looking at getting whitewalls soon, just got new tyres and they decided itd be lovely to put tyre shine on, and now theres silicone buildup everyyywhere, and i figure that wont be good when the walls are on..

its been a month since i got the tyres, washed the car many times, scrubbed the tyres, used a hard nylon brush, tried lots of combinations but i still spray the tyre with water and the water sticks around like it does when silicone is there.

what has everyone done to get the tyre back to the rubber!

not very helpfully but id love to know what they used, all the tyre shines i have ever used only last a week.

Do you have any dirt roads around your place? go for a drive on them then wash the tyres down with hot soapy water thats what i have found used to get rid of the stuff i used

Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner mixed at 5:1 will get rid of it.

...don't most tyres have silicone compound in them (silica tyres).

To remove it...try using acetone. I use acetone on brand new motorcycle race tyres to get the shine/thin layer of smoothness off. Might work for tyre shine.

Failing that, use petrol?

Swap the tyres on to the opposite rims, they wouldn't have done both sides.
