I had a look through fordmods for a dedicated Ute section, but no luck... so this is my attempt...

I recently got an "01 AU Black Ute (photos to come-needs a clean) and am wondering what exterior/interior asthetic mods i can do. I have a list of some things i want to do, but just need the money. so in the mean time i was hoping to get some ideas thrown around... if you have pictures of your own utes... please put them on here...

btw... please limit it just to utes please...

thanks

Hey mate,

I have a 07 BF XR8 Ute. Money is my issue currently. I would like to star my car off with lowering it, Then Wheels. I am in two minds as weather to get a FPV kit on it as i absolutely hate fakers (i mean putting an FPV kit on an XT falcon or something). I am also thinking of an FG bonnet decal.

I am currently in the process of installing my sub and amp behind the seats in the cab. There are all sorts of mods you can do (swaping the taillights to a later model falcon for a more current look etc) Even Window tint can make your car look nicer then stock. (headlight globes to brighter white ones.

It all depends on what look you are going for. Pictures would help this thread i think. I'm going for a low smooth look whereas the previous post is more about mudflaps etc. Each to their own.

What look do you want?

This is mine at the moment:

I want it this height:

Yeah, isn't money all our problems. I can most definately relate to you on that (I'm a first year apprentice fitter/turner).

I guess long term I am going for a similar look to what you are going for... Slender simple finish, just try to get that neat performance appeal.

I have spoken to a ford fried of mine and the short term goal is to remove the exterior door strip and get the holes covered into provide that sleeker appearance, and also get a TE50 front end so I can modify a larger forced cold air intake

I do agree about the pictures, the car is getting a wash tomorrow after work... So check back very soon to see what I'm talking about...

It's not quite an AU, but I have an XH which I have enjoyed playing around with. I'm on a budget (as always) so most of my mods have been really cheap and done myself.

Exterior
- lowered just under 2" with pedders setup in the front and reset rear leaves
- Roh 17's
- tinted windows
- clear side indicators
- that cheap grill mesh stuff from Supercheap (looks alright though)
- aluminium side skirt (made for $30!)
- swapped yellow plates for black ones
- took the stickers off (an iron with steam helped)

Interior
- some plain black seat covers
- steering wheel and gear knob, with a vinyl boot instead of the rubber one
- footwell white neons and LED dome globe (super bright now)

I also put carpet underlay in the doors, floor and rear wall. I got it for free and it does suprisingly well for reducing noise. Aesthetics for the ears I guess. It's also interesting how the little things like exhaust tips, valve caps and towball covers can make a difference. Most of is is pocket change too.

I was also thinking of taking the side strips off but since my car is a dark colour (like yours) they don't really stand out and a friend said that even if I did take them off, I'd still be able to see where they were until I got a proper paint job done. And until people stop pushing trolleys into it and the road crews actually sweep some of the gravel they leave when they repair roads, the paint is staying as it is sadly.

Mine's pretty plain looking,

Has a custom CAI with pod filter, stock exhaust with 1 sports muffler (sounds s**t, picking a turbo system tomorrow), sub and amp behind drivers seat, Fairlane wheel, lowered all round

If you've got an XR you are already off to a good start. Fit a BA rear bar and sideskirts and slam it on nice wheels if its looks you are after.

Ive got an AU XLS ute. It looks average but I dont mind so it will stay with the a*** faced front end.

I just put superlow springs in it with 17 inch wheels off some BA I got cheap. It has Fairmont ghia seats, door trims, centre console and hand brake setup. It was a bench seat before and column shift auto. Now its a 6 speed manual.

Turbo'd it too.

None of that would make it go any faster though. :P

The BA front doesnt just bolt on. You need to make custom bonnet brackets and replace the radiator support and half the inner guards apparently.

Not really interested in an XR front either. Mock ups are gay.

Utes are cool, but I don't think we need a separate area just for the ute lovers. We'd end up with all these separate folders for every different year, model and body style. 8-)
Have a look in the build threads, there are plenty of utes in there.

I cbf putting pics up again, my ute pics are in my gallery, or in my build thread - see below.

PS - It's not a ute if you cant put sh!t in the back, go to the tip, carry a bike, etc. If it's so low you can't carry anything, and/or you're scared you'll scratch it, you might be better off with a Commonwhore ute, they are already useless as a ute....
