Yer Boily but I don't do heavy hot work lol more precision stuff with exotic metals.
That looks pretty tidy. The only problem I see with the trundle trays is if you pull up somewhere with restricted space. That and the price... lol

Sounds like an interesting job you got there... Personally I'm very average at welding, but getting better... Slowly...
Yeah it's a big sacrifice of space, I don't know if I'm willing to lose that much... And yeah, only a sixth of the annual wage... :/

Well I've decided... I'm not waiting for my bank account to be able to handle those draws, to possibly not be happy with it...
So I'm going to weld up a 'shelf' to start with... Then if it's good, I'll add toolbox like compartments... Not sure how exactly it's going to work yet... Any suggestions for me?

make something that's removable. I've seen a few utes like it on forums from the states, that have full fabbed work plants in the back of style side utes, guys from many different trades. That way on the weekend you can take it off like people do with the ute campers but still have a style side. seemed like the best compromise to me.
That and when doing you're own jobs like that at home..... tack first weld last, you might change you're mind 148 times like me... lol

Yeah I was going to make it removable, to keep the flexibility of transporting larger items. Have to incorporate a couple of countersunk lifting lugs if I end up putting in tool boxes etc.
Tacking first is a GOOD idea... Cause I'm not a brilliant welder nor do I really know what the end product will look like... I need to decide on materials, at the moment it's going to be a combination of 1"x1" steel rhs and MDF. But not sure exactly how the tool boxes etc will work...

i havent started making that 'tray shelf' yet, but just curious... i want to put a dual battery system in the tub (1 battery infront of each wheel arch)... do you know much about plastic welding/who to see about getting this done?
i dont want to just bolt down 2 store bought battery boxes, i want to have them hidden in a 'toolbox' like box... any ideas anyone?

I don't know enough about plastic welding to give you a definate answer, but I can tell you it would cost a bomb.
I do recall that ford had a plastic arrangement that spanned the rear of the tray up the front to keep 'tools' dry etc, similar to the one available for inside the cab. Keep in mind the box will still need venting with batteries inside. Just sell the tub, go a custom tray and you can mount dual batteries off the chassis rails. Then you can also have as much storage as you wish. This also makes more effective room for under-tray drawers. Theres no such thing as a practical show car

Haha... The more and more I go into it, the more is see the flaws in making a nice style side ute... To get a new liner is $1,950. It's ridiculous... I think I will have to give up on the style side and make a good custom checkerplate tray back... Undermount toolboxes, etc... It's jst too hard tofiddle with style sides... :/
