Last few months I've noticed that the drivers side wing mirror vibrates with the car vibrations. Just suddenly started doing it.
Will open up it when I get time over xmas holidays, but just wondered what I can expect it to be? A spring or something come unclipped? Or something broken? It's bloody annoying that's for sure. |

If you're talking about your EL...then the mirrors can't be removed from the backing easily...most likely you will break something and that will cause more vibrations. Is it both mirrors or just the drivers side? My drivers one vibrates a fair bit, especially when on the move (due to wind). I have found it's because if you fold the mirrors in often, you wear out the centre pivot point which allows the mirror to have more play. My passenger one is fine, doesn't move stopped or moving.

Yea, on the EL. Just the drivers side.
The housing itself is rock solid, it's just the mirror inside the housing that vibrates a little...enough to distort vision in it. Damn, was hoping the mirror would come off somehow

The housing itself can't be removed from the pivot bit without breaking at least one of the clips. I can't remember how to do it though...I think you hold the right side of the mirror (looking at the mirror) and pull it away from the housing. But it could be the other way around, left side and pull away. I'd wait for someone who is certain to reply.

Mine does the same.
I have an AUII, Drivers Side door mirror yep the mirror does vibrate a bit and is annoying. This came about from some a***hole in a shopping centre car park, instead of being careful and walk around the mongrel decided to bend the mirror towards the rear, hence the vibrations now. Passenger side is perfect. If you find the remedy to this cause let me know also. Thanks |

my drivers side mirror does the same thing. The assembly behind the mirror glass is perfect and the mirror glass itself is clipped in properly... any ideas?

Weird...a possible common issue maybe?

Shano.T...if you drive along and open your window, does it stop vibrating when you hold it at the pivot point? as in grab the swivel part of the mirror and the stationary part together in your palm as you drive along...if it's stops, I think wear and tear on the mirror so the actual casing is vibrating, not the mirror.

I know it's not the casing on mine. The casing is rock solid, and the swivel is still firm and tight. Definitely the mirror vibrating only.

It's probably the tension spring on the back of the mirror itself.

Just had a look at mine. Gregories has instructions for pulling the glass off. basically it just pulls away.
The spring looks fine on mine. I can't see anything wrong. It looks like it's just the 4 clips aren't grabbing as tight as they once were...thats all I can think of. So I wrapped a tiny piece of leccy tape around the brackets where the clips slide over, to make them a little thicker, but the mirror still vibrates. Maybe the leccy tape isnt the best stuff to use as the clips will sliparound on it. I'm thinking I might just use glue to stick it on permanently. If I ever have to replace the mirror( very unlikely), I'll just have to bite the bullet and snap it off. But at least it should fix it. Thinking I'll use araldite, to give me some time to get it in place before it sets.

5 days ago I had unintentionally let my passenger side door mirror scrape along a support column in the car port. Now the bugger is virates and not steady when driving.
I dont know why that would cause the mirror itself to become unstable, does anyone have an idea what would have give way to allow the mirror to become unstable and is it repairable? Thanks, Peter |
