G'day,

I purchased anoter bootlid from wreckers and yes, it has bubble rust on the lip i..e underneath the lid.

As it looks straighter and not bent like the one I currently have. it needs to be welded.

I've got a MIG Welder with Argoshield gas.

I've welded before but not skillful enough to tackle light stuff on cars.

Is there anyone can give me a hand on this?

I'm in Eagleby. near Beenleigh, which is half-way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

I'm not after a Pro but someone who can do the job on the cheap.

Cheers, Peter

couldn't you get any good ones?
well anyway how bad is the rust you might be able to just grind it back and put some rust kill on prior to respraying it.

might be worth post a pic of how bad it is

G'day OZBMX,

Yeah, could not find any the rigfht colour, been to a few wrecking yards and most have been damaged as in twisted and worse than mine, others missing completely...must be a popular item.

You can feel the rust underneath the fingers when the bubble squashes and you can hear the crunching noise.

I'll take a few pics and post it here, I'll take a few pics today sometime. It could be uploaded today or tomorrow.

Cheers, Peter

As promised earlier.

Here are the photos, I placed my fingers inside the inner area and yes you can feel the roughness / rust coming through so it needs to be cut and welded with zincanneal or similar.

I need to keep this car for another 10 years.

Cheers

Has the rust gone right through to the out side?

No, the rust is contained to the inner or should say underneath the lid. it has not ventured to the outer or outside panel. Bit hard trying to describe it via texting, might be easier for me to bring it over to you to see.

I think your Tig welder might be the go as my Mig may not handle such a thin metal even though its has 0.6mm mild steel wire.

PM sent earlier

You would not believe it but I just scrapped a lid in that colour on the au, it's had spoiler holes though, but otherwise.
If you want a spare rear bar mate let me know, your not that far from me either.

OZBMX,

It's okay, I still would have to weld the holes anyway. Not keen on having spoilers on the boot but thanks anyway.

Cheers
