If you are using acrylic (highly recommended) and you can pick a nice warm still day, and you can park in an area with NO dust, you can paint outside fine. I have painted several cars outside with acrylic without many dramas. The paint will be touch dry very quickly, so most airborne insects, leaves, etc will just fall off without sticking.
If you are painting on a concrete drive, it will pay to wet it really well just before you park the car on it, and even keep it wet with a slow hose while painting. This will keep all the dust away, and it grabs a lot of overspray out of the air as well. Make sure your neighbours are cool with you painting in the yard, maybe warn them to close there windows, etc, to keep the stink out. Take your time, practice on a spare panel if you can, and if you get a run, leave the panel to dry (1 hour max) and just block sand it out and start again. If you get any bugs landing on wet paint, pick them out with a toothpick, and if there is a visible mark, treat it like a run. As above, the prep work is 90% of a good paint job, so take your time with that part, it will make an average painter look good. Poor prep will make a good painter look like crap. Stay away from 2 pack paints, that sh!t is poisonous, if you dont have the proper gear it will make you real crook real quick.

Thanks for the tip and advice.
Yeah I'm on acreaage so that's ok with neighbours. I'll set up some type of antibug net. I'll place plastic under the vehicle to cover cement. I'll be planning this carefully. 2k does not worry me, I have a mask, also after working with poisons in the past I'm sure to be careful. Road marking paint is more dangerous that car paint. Road paint is mostly Degadur and highly carcinogenic. Cheers. |

You will need more than a mask, that sh!t will be absorbed in thru your skin, hair, etc. Not fun. My step-dad got a perforated bowel from using 2 pack for too long.....
Stick to the acrylics, and use a 2 pack hardner with the clear.

Thanks for your concern. Not illegal in Qld.
Show me a govt that does something legal, they are the biggest rorters under the sun with their laws and bylaws. I do have diving tanks if need be and lot more beneficial than the fumes the generator produces. |

{USERNAME} wrote: Thanks for your concern. Not illegal in Qld. So because it's "legal" to do it, it's OK to poison yourself and everyone / everything nearby? {USERNAME} wrote: Show me a govt that does something legal, they are the biggest rorters under the sun with their laws and bylaws.. WTF has that got to do with painting your car? {USERNAME} wrote: I do have diving tanks if need be and lot more beneficial than the fumes the generator produces. Have you got the rest of the gear, wetsuit, etc? You could wear that to protect yourself from the poisonous fumes.... that wouldn't make spraying a car difficult at all. Lived in Eagleby your whole life then?

Aye sooty, are you a do gooder or something?
The other statement I made might not have anything to do with cars, you need to read between the lines. In life, not everything is black and white, its all shades of grey. F the reporter, I gave those buggers good info and news on fish kills at Pimpama plus photos, including GGCC..they were not interested, they dont car if cane farmers put poison in the rivers and kills the fish and takes several weeks or months to recover. Never even made news headlines unlike the previous time. At least I'm more conscious of the environment that what you think. Also never believe what you see or read in the media, its all controlled and manipulated. Have a great day and smile. |

Yeah, I was leaning toward Acrylics - I do have a couple of pair of plastic coveralls, disposable gloves, and a couple of new 3M respirators.
