HI all
My wife just rang WIndscreens Obrien in Seven Hills (Sydney) and was quoted $298.00 to come to her work and replace the screen on her EBII. I thought these guys charged around the $180.00 mark for this? Can anyone recommend a windscreen supplier/fitter in Sydney's West that would (possibly) do it at her work...... or do we need to take the car to them to be cheaper? Cheers RD

Dont know about down south, but in qld it seems they are way overpriced, and the local guys do it heaps cheap. In the past i had a screen changed buy obrien and it was $340, from then on i used a private guy from my hometown, and 3 times i have used him it was 180 supply and fit.
Maybe try a no name dude.

Would be interesting how much they charge insurance companies. We all know about insurance company windscreen excesses. That's why I see so many people driving around with cracked windscreens ......

Ok, still searching for a reasonably priced windscreen dude for Rach's screen. Lumpy_camo above offered hope but I didn't get a number.
So we still need a replacement windscreen for the EB beast, more so now that I am starting mods on it! Cheers RD

i got a quote from obriens for a simple refit as the glue had let go. they wouldn't come to me to fix it and there quote for doing it at their service center was over 200. JUST FOR A RESEAL!!
Thats just typical of all the major fitters. i know i've had replacement screens for less than they wanted.

Did O'Briens do the original fitting? $200 for a refit is ripoff itself. Reminds me when O'Briens did a windscreen replacement (insurance) for the wife's Laser. The fitment wasn't exactly done properly. They tell you after replacement to have a window open when closing the door so the windscreen doesn't pop out or move. I drove the car slowly home, O'Briens was only a few kilometres away. When I got home, on closer inspection noticed the windscreen wasn't sitting square (by the black "border" on the windscreen. Black adhesive was on the plastic trim and some had ooozed out between the glass and frame. Took the car straight back. After a bit of attitude from staff, telling me I obviously didn't wind the window down and that I mustn't have been driving too carefully. WTF! Morelike a quick fit by the fact black adhesive/sealant was oozing out and pointed out and asked why black sealant was all over the plastic trim. They were adamant they weren't going to fix it. Not until I threatened to ring head office and the insurance company that they changed their mind. Last edited by FoMoFo on Thu Apr 16, 2009 9:59 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

Mine was $150 just under 2 years ago when a branch broke mine at the station in high wind. I don't park under trees anymore. I let the car cook in the sun. BTW 2 cars got flattened when a whole tree came down there this time last year in a big storm.
Its a funny story as I had gotten a $150 verbal quote off a guy I parked next to at Red Rooster THE NIGHT BEFORE mine was smashed. He was there swapping spare screens with another fitter. They were 2 vans side by side and they must have been organising jobs for the morning. So I get off the train Friday night to find my screen broken and a stick on my bonnet, small dent in the guard. It was stormy with wide winds so I didnt think it was the local kids being bastards. They just kept pinching my alloy valvecaps. I called O'briens and they said $265. I said I had a quote for $150. They said no problem if I had a written quote. i knew no one would actually ask to see the quote so I was not concerned. They said they would do it next day. I was extremely pleased with the quality and professionalism of the fitter who came out. He removed the old cracked screen and cleaned the frame spotless. He used a liberal amount of adhesive sealant and the finish was great. He cleaned up all the excess and It was good as new. I highly recommend them. My golden rule is never pay the first price you are given over the phone!
