hey guys and girls just wondering how are the factory ef xr bonnet vents held on the bonnet? im looking to buy some for my falc to try and reduce some of the engine bay ambient heat. anyone have any to sell (for a realistic price)? doesn't matter what colour can respray

what are you fitting them to, I had a set I was going to put on my GLi, but the XR bonnets have a recess that they sit in, not something that can be easily done on a non XR bonnet, it's not as simple as just cutting a hole, like I thought it would be.

genuine ones would be a b**ch to fit.
aftermarket compies, don't look as good, but much easier to fit, just cut hole in bonnet for air to get through and sikaflex vent on top - only concern may be water/rain getting in... |

Nope. There is a catch tray under the vent holes which catches the water. While this means that water wont leak all over the engine, it also means that there is pretty much no air venting through them. They are for visual purposes only. Mate, if your interested in getting intake temps down, put your cash towards a good quality cold air induction system. If you like the look of 'em, then get 'em. If all you want them for is to reduce intake or engine bay temps, I wouldn't bother.... |

These bonnet vents are not ging to cause as many problems as a "shaker" since they are not being used as an air ingestion point. Yes water is not recommended for the igniton leads, but at least it is a cheap method of water cooling (Only in the rain though!)
Has anybody an original XR6/XR8 and performed a under bonnet test for temperature and pressure. Could FORD have used these to reduce front end lift?, rather than temperatures? The major hassles with cooling is developing suffiecent air flow when in stop/start traffice - bonnet vents will have little if any influence then. (Still want a set for the look!) |

The major hassles with cooling is developing suffiecent air flow when in stop/start traffice - bonnet vents will have little if any influence then. Water shouldn't get on your ignition leads as the vents are approximately above the air filter box and the coolant over flow bottle so quiet a distance away! Remember hot air rises! So in theory at idleing it should rise and escape through the vents! |

thats the reason why i would like them!
not to let air in, but to let the hot air rise and escape out them. altho on a fairmont bonner may be difficult

The aftermarket vents will have an effect when standing still, but not when you're on the move. A lot of EF-EL taxi drivers have had the vents fitted as the batteries have been known to get so hot standing at cab ranks that the acid has boiled. Apparently, that area is a real hot spot. Vents fitted, problem solved.

Sorry guys, but the vents on an EF XR will NOT expell any air. If they did it would be two thirds of sweet F**k all...

there would be a little benefit while moving and standing still,
we all know that a low pressure would be created across the holes due to air moving faster over the top of the bonnet than the speed of the air under the bonnet, creating a pressure differential, don't we.... this would have an effect of drawing air and by connection, heat, out of the engine bay, the pressure differential would be small, but would exist. The process of getting the heat out may also be helped if somehow the pressure under bonnet was helped out, say by airflow into the engine bay, maybe through the raditor, this would help when the vehicle is standing still with teh engine running. Granted there's a big hole under and around the engine, so more benefit would be gained while moving.
