hi guys, does anyone know what the difference is in a set of splits that run 2 ohms impedance and a set at 4 ohms? will they both work of a non amped stock fg head unit? have found some splits for the fg i want, (either kicker ks6502 or jbl gto608c) the only thing splitting my decision is wether to go for 2 ohms (jbl) or 4 ohms (kicker)?

Can headunits handle a 2ohm load?

Mate if your gonna spend some decent cash on speakers get a 2channel amp to power them. Deffinantly worth it , sounds heaps better.

And personaly id go with the kickers.

The ohm rating on a speaker determines how much power you can put through it.

Lower the number the more power it can draw, but you need an amp/headunit that can drive that much power load.

This may sound all well and good, but the downside/tradeoff is, there's less cone control possible with such a low impedance (ohm). Resulting in less sound quality.

(look to home and pro audio, 8 or 16 ohm is the norm)

the fg headunit will power 2ohm speakers no worries,

4 ohm...as mentioned above, better sound quality over 2 ohm.

but with the low power headunits from factory 2 ohm would be louder

But most can't run 2ohm speakers.

Those that can have to make do with the extra heat that's produced driving a lower impedance speaker, and the lower quality sound output.

what do you want loud* and crappy, or just as loud as before* but better.

*loudness also has a great deal to do with sensitivity. A 4ohm speaker with 90dB sensitivity will be just as loud as a 2 ohm one with 87dB sensitivity.

Well yes in this situation of course you would pick the 4 ohm

and yes correct about sensitivity.
