Hi,
I fave a 1996 Fairlane. I just replaced the Climate Control Unit (CCU) and now, when I set the temperature to high it doesn`t blow hot air. Sometimes works but not all the time. The engine temperature gauge never reaches the normal area, it sits just beneath it. Can someone point me to the lace I have to check? I already searched the forum and didn`t find anything like this. Thanks. |

If you run a diagnostic on the climate control it will most likely come up with the dreaded E2 error code which is the blend door motor.

Thanks, but how can I run that diagnostic?

It will then do a diagnostic and recalibration. When it is done, if there are no problems with the actual climate control bits it will turn off. If there is something wrong it will show up an 'E' with a number.

Already done that and there is no error code.

If the car isn't getting hot then that is why it isn't blowing hot air...
Change or test your thermostat as it sounds like it's stuck open... Cheers, Tim

The problem is that sometimes when I turn the heating to max I get really hit air so I belive that the thermostat works, kind of....
I will test that but please, if you have any other ideas. Thanks. |

take the glove box out and see if that blend door adjusts? I don't know much about climate but the blend door must be in the same box and you should be able to see the flap change over... If that works then either the core isn't getting hot (thermostat or heater tap issue), or the heater core is blocked with leaves (fire hazard)...
Put the instrument cluster in diag mode... What temperature is it reading? (in tech docs under resources tab above, then EL instruments section)... It'll spit the temp out in degrees C... If it isn't getting to 90 ish then your due for a thermostat... Cheers, Tim

Ok...
I just pulled the glove box out but I don`t see anything. I don`t know what exactly do I have to look for. If you are referring to the metal leaver that is connected to the big beck box... I don`t have it or I just don`t see it. I think I will have to pull the dashboard out and look behind it but that is a very difficult task and I know that in most cases it will never fit back as it was. That is why I keep trying to find a different solution. Thanks. |

dash comes out and goes back fine... Had mine out numerous times and if you get stuck into it you can have out in an hour...
On my car when you pull the glove box out there is cable which comes out and hook onto a big lever there... The cable is connected to the adjustment temp knob you slide up and down... I'd have though cilmate would hook onto this lever there somewhere and you'd be able to see it move as you change temperatures from hot to cold... What temperature is your car running at like I said to check?

This is how it looks behind my glove box :
Attachment: I know that it looks like its missing some hoses but those are inoperable, i checked. About the temperature... I don`t know how to check the engine temperature, more exactly I don`t have with what... Thanks. |

Because you couldn't find it I'm guessing?
documents.php?d=12 See how mode 2 gives the engine coolant temp in degrees? How many degrees does it get up when driving around? Cheers, Tim

And yeah on Climate control it looks like they delete the arm that is in there... That makes it hard to see and hence will require the dash to come out to check if we can't find a coolant temperature problem...
Cheers, Tim

Ok...
About the coolant temperature I must wait until tomorrow when I go to work. I have about 14 km to drive and a lot of traffic, so I think the temperature will go as high as it gets. Usually it does... About the dashboard...I think I will pass. I looked at a similar model and I tried to take it apart. looks very complicated and it`s a delicate job. If I don`t find another solution...then Ford Service is next. Thanks. |

Not so hard... How ever the centre console comes out on the EF/EL...
Then 5 bolts under the cowling near the windscreen... One bolt on each outside of the foot well in the kick panel... Two bolts under the centre of the dash to hold to floor... Yeah and if it doesn't get to 90 degrees or there abouts that's why... If it does then go buy a 3/4 to 3/4 hose joiner and pull your heater tap out and fit it and see if that helps... Put the cluster in diag mode tomorrow morning before you head off and keep an eye on it for the whole journey... Cheers, Tim
