Hey everyone.
I have a problem with my AC...I think. In the last couple of days as all Victorians know, it was bloody hot so I decided to turn the AC on and drive with the windows up. Before I could turn it on I had to plug the Vacuum hose back in for the control of the flap since it is leaking in the cabin. Anyways once plugged in I turned the AC on and there was cool air coming out. But it wasn't as cold as it used to be or so I think. The air is not as cold as last time I used it when I drove back from Torquay, but it was colder then if the AC was off. Just wondering what could be causing this besides the loss of refrigerant that may require topping up. Are there any adjustable knobs in the engine bay that may need to be opened up so that colder air can get in? Sorry about the long story cheers phong =P~

You should run your a/c every week or so to keep the seals lubed. Otherwise you can get refrigerant loss. Could be that you have lost some pressure in the system (small leak) or the fact that it was so hot the a/c could not run at optimum efficiency.
I'm leaning towards both if you don't run the a/c often. cheers Scott

I was hoping it was too hot for the A/C not to work properly. I mean it was in the sun for 5 hours from 9AM till 2PM and it was about 42 degrees according to the Ambient temp sensor. I will now run the A/C more often.
Hopefully it's not a leak =( phong =P~

Get it regased. To poor for a regas? then find a fridge and use that....cant find a fridge? then use LPG.
I found mine to be a little warmer then normal. I think it was due to the warm weather. I run my aircond almost every week cause in the summer its hot. In the winter its cold and my windscreen fogs up so aircond fixes that.

...I'll live with the aircon off...just won't be pleasant in 40 degree heat.

Care to explain this part more ??? Here's a few things I'd suggest: Run the self test to cal the blend door. Have a feel of the condensor on the front of the radiator (you might need to remove the black plastic cover - those clips are always fun), do this with A/C on max and while the engine has only been started from cold - it might get quite hot, so watch your hand - it should be hot pretty much all over, a lack of refridgerant usually shows as warm on one side of the condensor - the end which is connected to the compressor. This line from the compressor should get quite hot if the refridgerant is at full capacity. You could check the receiver/drier sightglass for bubbles, but the LH headlight and bumper will be in the way unfortunately. The line at the firewall from the evaporator (which sits in the airbox)should get condensation on it as well, and should feel cold. Make sure you are getting airflow through the radiator while this is happening. A/C efficiency does decrease with an increase in ambient temp, but even at 40 degrees and airflow through the radiator, you still should get decent cooling. Try recirc instead of flow through, and use a fan speed around 3-4.

When I bought the car there was a hissing noise in the cabin. I have asked in here and it was found to be a vacuum leak behind the dashboard...drivers side near where the vacuum distribution block thingy is. I checked the tubing on them but found nothing so not sure where it's coming from and thought it might be at the firewall area. When I am not working one day and car is cool I will check if the piping is cool or not. I'm guessing if all piping are hot...does that mean that I need more refigerant (take not its a 10 year car 96 EL)? if I need more refigerant and get the system tested how much would it cost...by lets say Natrad or some specialist. phong =P~

Here in WA, to get it regased was something like $80 3 years ago.
I dont use mine every week either, will have to start doing that from now on. Did seem a bit warmer, but change in weather can do that easily enough. But yeah turn on recirc and leave it on 3 and its plenty cold regardless what day it is, well with mine anyways fordfreak ef I've always loved the look of leather seats, more class and sportier interior look. But everyone keeps telling me I will regret having leather because I will stick to it like you say. Is it really that bad? even with your A/C on? I try to compare it to my fake leather computer chair with no A/C in the house or even insulation on a 43c day :S |
