Thats good news! Ive just read the docco, doesnt sound too bad at all hey! But just one thing, seing that ive only got an XR8, im gonna have to add 3 extra wires, like the docco explains. Pin numbers 6 & 7 are a piece of piss to connect up, but with Pin 1 though, i have to connect it to Pin 14 of the "Right Hand Side Instrument Cluster Connector" ..Where abouts is that connector? Cheers mate! Ps. Love the conversion youve done to ur gli! ..All you need now are power windows ay? |

on the right hand side of the instrument cluster (when you are looking at the dials) on the bottom. You need to remove the dash to get to it though.

So you wouldnt need to remove the WHOLE dash would you? ..Just enough to be able to remove the instrument cluster, yeah? Would it be possible to access it from under the dash? Ie. pull out all the panels around the fuses & steering column and s**t? Or would it be easier just to remove the instrument cluster? Sorry about the 1001 questions, its just i wana know the best/easiest way to do it! Cheers. |

Easiest way is to remove te dash surround, take out the cluster to access the pins, run the wires, re assemble and enjoy.

That should be an EL Trip Computer on Ebay. Darren (xr8dismantler here) sells trip computers so you might want to PM him, he might help. Ring wreckers in your local area, I am assuming that Sydney as a fair few. Finally if all else fails ring Ford and see what they will charge. When doing mine I used .12mm diameter DNA speaker wire, tahts all you need, pretty much any speaker wire is best. |

I did mine recently, so if you have any questions it's all fresh in my mind.
The pin 1-Pin14 wire is only data, so doesn't need to be heavy duty, I used some light gauge (18 or 20AWG) wire. The only tricky bit I came across, what actually adding the pin14 bit. As on the lower spec clusters (XR8 you, Futura me) there isn't anything there. What I did was 'tin' the wire and ram it in the right hol eof the socket while connecting it back to the cluster.

Yeah i might ring around a few wreckers here in Sydney.. Ford wreckers are a dime a dozen here!
Datamine, if i get stuck anytime during the install, you'll be the first one i nag for help! Any advice on removing the dash facia? As ive never done it on an el before + there might be some hidden screws/clips that i dont know about! Lol, i dont wana break anything now! Also, is there anything else that i have to take off BEFORE attempting to remove the dash facia? After removing the radio facia i mean. Cheers |

Taking off the steering wheel will make the job alot easier. I left mine on, and had a difficult time getting to the screws for the cluster (even with moving the wheel up/down/in/out constantly)
If you don't already have the TC, see if you can get it with at least some of it's wiring loom attached. It'll make wiring it up real easy. I just spliced it into the exisiting clock look, and spliced two wires to the demist button (for illumination). Finally ran a bit of wire across from the cluster to the TC, and spliced that in tot he TC loom, tinned the cluster eng, and jammed it into the socket, so far it's held perfectly (considering I couldn't find a suitable crimp part), it's been through my daily driving, and an 'energetic' cruise.

Try this for instruction on taking the dash fascia off.
http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4914 Only difference is that this one is done to an EF series 1 and the bottom of the fascia (around the ash tray) is different. For you take your ashtry out and remove the screw in behind it. There is only one screw, the other side is a pull out clip which may be tight at first, but it will come out. The rest is the same as the doco. As for removing your steering wheel, just use a short screw driver for the top three screws and you will have no trouble getting to them at all. No need to stuff around with the bomb in your steering wheel then! Cheers and good luck. Phil
