So, in this glorious heat my air con is wiggling out, I am thinking its regas time, it will run for a while, nice and cold, then just like the wife become uncomfortable and angry generating unwanted heat. Then after a while back to normal, any tips or clues what to look for before I start looking for a regas?
Oh, it's a climate control unit BTW Dave

If there's no condensation on the evaporator pipes near the firewall when the system is cooling, then yes, a regas is most likely.
Then the next question is why is it losing gas. But as mentioned, climate control does need a self test from time to time.

self test complete, no issues showed up, problem still persists.
Has been this way since I got the car. a new air con compressor was put in before I collected the car as there were AC issues already in place. I am thinking it was done on the dodgy just like everything else they were asked to do, I think they have either not put enough in or there is a leak. I will now have to take it and get it leak tested. hopefully they have just messed up the fill and its low, but a leak test will answer these questions. f**k car yards. Everything they touch turns to s**t doesn't it. Good thing I got the price I wanted. the small stuff like this can be fixed.

I know exactly what you mean....I was like that when I got my EL Fairmont wagon. It had a few problems that I am now working on, But if the car yard had done their job right and got the roadworthy done legit like they were supposed to then I wouldn't have to be spending my time and money sorting these issues out.

for the most part i factored a few extra grand into the price for bits and pieces, with 2 kids around, that get reallocated very fast. I would really like to get it fixed as i have kids in the car, but, I also have windows in the interim.
Anyone able to throw a basic price out for a regas?

The regas was only $99, more for the test. I had the system on my EB converted to R134a and regas for under $200.

in au, they have a small filter in the hot line that should be replaced when re-gassed, also as all aircon systems, it will have a hi/low pressure switch and the pump should also have a hi temp cut off aswell. it could be a blockage in the filter causing high pressure, or the compressor could be getting hot, maybe when the car yard fixed it they didnt add enough or any oil to the system??
unless its leaked out which is just as troublsome.. one of the best aircon places ive been to is m&j auto electrics at guildford. probably charge a little more than some but they do a thorough and good job.. |

I have to get mine gassed very soon. Might give stage co a ring if they can do it for $99.
If you get the gas ut in with the fluro dye they can find the leak quik smart.
