Anyone know where the passenger Airbag blanking resistor is located. I keep getting code 33 and 73 and I don't have a passenger airbag in my EF.
If someone can point me to the airbag module location, or is the resistor located at the end of the wiring on the passenger side or the dash. cheers Scott

Series 1 (pre 96) EF's have the blanking resistor beside the airbag module (far behind and above the steering wheel on the rhs next too the firewall)
Series 2 (late 95+) have it located Just inside the glovebox (theres a little hole on the left side with foam wrapt around it) EL's were dodge.. it just hung from the middle left of the glove box with yellow flex pipe! Good luck (the resistor is on a plug if its on the left... on the right... its a b**ch to get too.. and the resistor is 'in' the plug. Andrew

So being a late 94 I would ned to remove cluster to get access?
Or is it below the cluster up in the far reaches of the foot well? cheers Scott

Unfortunatly its far beyond reach even without the cluster (i think) I cant remember.
Double check that it isn't on the passenger side as it is 'just' accessible. I really doubt there is a resistor problem, the chances of it failing (on its own accord) is very unlikely, also the resistor is very well positioned in the loom plug and i can almost guarantee it hasn't fallen out, Have you double checked all fuses, airbag globe, relays and cleared memory etc? I would be very dissapointed with myself if you took the dash out and observed the resistor and or module to find no fault. almost as p****d if you found it on the passenger side. As far as i am concernd with the dashes i've pulled in the last 2 weeks all 94ish cars had it just below the windscreen (right) in the upper section of the firewall. 2 cars that were 96ish (inc. mine) had the resistor behind the glove box. If it is on the RHS the resistor plug is almost hidden and taped to the loom itself. I hope this helps Andrew

I've cleared the memory about 20 times and it seems to stay cleared for about 20 minutes of driving time. I only ever get code 33 or 73. Everything else seems ok.
I have pulled the fuse and it is ok, I have replaced the globe (it was faulty). Do you have any suggestions? It is really starting to bug me! cheers Scott

Got me stumped!
The only resistor avaliable is the extrenal you already know about. I'd suggest you go to a 'do it urself' wreckers and pull a dash out (or find one out) and grab another resistor... Might even pay getting another module just incase theres a dodgey resistor inside the unit itself! I guess the 'do not remove' logo on the airbag module means nothing to a wrecked car! allow urself 2-3 hours if you must remove everything because if ur like me u'll clean behind the dash.

Well it only took 6hrs but I did it! Took the dash out, fixed the recirc flap (yay!) and worked out why I was getting codes 33 and 73. The answer??? There was no resistor. Yup someone had removed it and the connector as well. Just two pieces of wire with a little but of the connector left on them. I wired in a 2.2ohm resistor and so far so good.
cheers Scott ps I HATE removing the dash!!!

Just out of curiosity,
where was the blanking resistor located? top right? or did you find it on the nearside? cheers Andrew

Up the very far reaches of the rhs dash, just where you said it woud be. And an absolute bugger to get at at that!
cheers Scott

So from your information, this is the passenger airbag plug in my EL?
I have code 33. Your telling me that there is a resistor in that plug that I need to change? can you tell me what this is? its located on the drivers side taped up onto the main loom.

No I didn't, I was also using a EF manual and apparently the EL's are different in the wiring of the airbag system.
