I've been having probs with my airbag light coming on (which, of course means the bag won't go off in a crash) and so I took the car into Ford and had them do a diagnostic... They told me that the airbag module needed replacement, for the small price of "just" $750...!

Are there any other companies that specialise in airbags? I'd like to take it to someone reputable rather than "Joe's backyard airbag emporium"... Doesn't really matter if you take your car to anyone for tuning, but if the airbag doesn't go off when you need it to...

Well, wait for an answer from him, and I'll tell you.

I will do the check, but I've had probs with the light coming on before. My regular mechanic cleared the codes last time and it seemed to work for a few months but then just came back on...

I'm looking for another company that can first of all check the unit and if necessary replace whatever is faulty for less than $750!!

You can achieve this yourself quite easily.

Note down what your codes are (and post them here). The problem could be elsewhere and could even be in your crash sensors. There are even codes for incorrect mounting of all the components as well.
Wise thing as mentioned is to DIY test and ascertain where the actual problems lie.

If it is the airbag, I can assist with a replacement one.

I have a couple of undeployed grey and cappa drivers airbags... And one cappa passenger airbag.

Thanks for the assist guys, I'm still not sure what the drama is, I think the code is either 12 or 21. The problem is that the timing between the flashes seems to be too long. There's a single flash after start-up, then about 5 seconds, then two flashes in quick succession, then another 5 seconds before it repeats, again with 5 seconds between the single and double flashes... I thought it was supposed to be only 2 seconds between linked flashes?? I'll have to pay more attention when I check again! Not do it half cut and completley exhausted!! (Don't worry, I wasn't driving, just wandering out to the car-port and turning the ignition on and off!)

Yeah, just confirm which it is - 12 is low battery, 21 is diagnostic monitor (airbag module) not mounted correctly.
Sounds familiar.
2 secs between linked, 5 secs between the code repeat.

Ok, so I finally took the time to check the timing properly... I think it's a code 12 - low battery voltage??

Ignition on - Air bag light on, then off (normal). 2 sec pause, then single flash, 2 sec pause, double flash. 5 second pause, single flash, 2 second pause, double flash...

This is where I really need some help! Electronics is one area where I am severely out of my element! Is my battery faulty? Or is this an old problem from the old battery that I had replaced recently? Or is it referring to the back-up battery for the airbag? Or is there a voltage drop somewhere across the system? I have no clue!!

That code is quite common - clear the codes as per the doco mentioned earlier. Monitor your system for a few days, hopefully it won't return - if it does, post it here.

Cool. Thanks very much for your help mate...

As I said, my knowledge of electronics is next to nil, so when it says tp apply a short circuit to the memory clear pin, how? I know it's a retard question, but I don't want to blow any vital systems through ignorance... Is it as simple as sticking a piece of wire to the memory clear pin? What should I connect the other end to?

Thanks in advance...

Yeah no probs.
Connect a wire to the memory clear pin and earth it to the car frame, e.g. the drivers door courtesy light switch mounting screws.
