Just got my car back from my dad and now every time i start it my Airbag light flashes and then everntually just stays ON. Now i know im going to have to go and have this checked by a mechanic, but does anyone know if ill have to have the airbags replaced or not, and what it will cost either way. Just another f**k cost. He didnt hit anything or do anything to cause it.

don't take it to a mechanic, take it to a auto sparky. They will plug the scan tool into it and extract the error code

what did your dad do to it? was he fiddling with the battery or the electrics at all?
theres a tech doc on here which shows you how to remove the error code. save some bucks and do it yourself.

Count the flashes - will be a set of 2 digits (may be repeated) 2 seconds pause between digits, 5 seconds pause between sets.
Most common error code is 12 - check the airbag fuse. You will need to clear the error code after repair. After this you will get a different code, usually to tell you the original fault is fixed (or intermittent) but if another fault exists you will get the code for that.

Hahahaha.. Funny comment.. It did the job for me last week. As has been said, count the flashes. It will be the error code. Generally its 52 or something... Check the airbag fuse in the fuse compartment, it might be blown. That can happen often. |

My face was nestled in this nice white pillow as the car came to a rather quick stop. It was rather pleasant, until the rather rancid smoke they generate started to choke me until I forced open the drivers door. |

ok i went and started the car and had a look, it goes as following:
25 Flashes 3 Flashes PAUSE 1 Second 2 Flashes PAUSE 3 Second - 3 Flashes PAUSE 1 Second 2 Flashes PAUSE 3 Second - 3 Flashes PAUSE 1 Second 2 Flashes PAUSE 3 Second - 3 Flashes PAUSE 1 Second 2 Flashes PAUSE 3 Second - 3 Flashes PAUSE 1 Second 2 Flashes PAUSE 3 Second - AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON AFTER THIS POINT Anyone got an idea what this means?

Code 32 is a open circuit on the drivers airbag. Could be a broken clock spring or wiring fault somewhere in the steering column. Or maybe the airbag had open circuited internally. |

I was sorta working towards the fact I stacked my car and as of yesterday its been written off. You could also call it a live test... I wasn't sure if they did work, and now I know they did. But I was describing my experiences as to why airbags are good and shouldn't be put on the "don't give a f**k about it" list. |

sorry to hear man, but ive always wandered, where does the plastic on the front go when the airbag comes flying out... wouldnt want that s**t hitting you in the face at 400km/h or however fast the airbags deploy.

It flips upwards... Its on a hinge... Id hate to see what would happen if it wasn't on a hinge... |
