That would be out in the open - ie across a field or empty parking lot or something. Whack a few buildings in the way and it'll probably drop it down to 100m or less, but still if you're out at dinner or at a party or something and the car is out on the street a few doors up it'd probably work. Of course they could be pure s**t and not work from the other side of your garage door... :P

I fitted a remote paging jaycar alarm to mine, and is good for 500m when locked in a garage(tested it at a mates place. All up cost was under 300 but fitted it myself with the help of fuzion. Took less that 2 hours to install and smartlock was left alone to do its own thing. It has boot, bonnet and door sensors as well as shock sensor, so am pretty happy with it

what are the odds of this happeneing...
with my old car, i parked next to this person and when i locked my car, their car unlocked..
i thought that they must have been coming in to their car.. so i went to the shops and came back and the car was still there and unlocked, so when i unlocked my car their car locked... i did this twice and both cars responded (didnt want to leave their car unlocked :P)

does this happen often, shouldnt there be like a unique frequency or some thing like that???

you should get the manual and reprogram the buttons (Recommended) for most alarms to do and most installers do it but some twits dont.. so thats probably your best bet.
