the climate control in an ef ghia is playing up. everything works fine apart from the fact that air only comes out to the windscreen. reading a few previous topics it seems as though there is a vacuum leak and this is the default setting for it. what i didnt come across is how to fix this problem?
do i unplug the climate control unit and make sure all hoses are in correctly or is there something else to it? any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers.

my bad the air con only comes on through the face vents, no matter what you put it too, i looked under the dash from the passenger side and towards the center there is a black box with all the vacuum hoses going through it. this seems to make a clicking sound when i change the mode but nothing else happens, checked all the vacuum hoses everywhere and all is ok, whats the problem???
any ideas?

Chances are the vaccum solenoid has failed. Thats the black box you can see behind the dash.
I believe Ford revised this part for late EF/EL for the problem you are having. You might need to try and get the pack out, and see if the face solenoid is switching correctly. It might be locked open, and as its the highest outlet on the pack, it always receives the vaccum first, before any other outlet. |

thanks for that info arm79, does anyone know how much these parts are new?
as for the diagnostic i dont know how to do that.. prob in the technical documents isnt it? haha...

I doubt they are cheap, but its best to check the thing first. I'm just making an assumption.
Hitting mode and off together will initiate the self test, but I don't think it will tell you if the vaccum pack is dead. To test the vaccum pack, you'll need to pull the thing out, ground one of the pins and put 12v on the other. Then basically breathe air into each outlet. It should allow the air to flow, then take the 12v off and it should stop the air. Or vice versa. |
