Hi all.
I feel the back lighting on the AU dash is way too bright, even turned down to the lowest setting. I would like to take some of the sting out of it, maybe 20 - 25% should be just right. Has any body pulled a AU dimmer switch apart and is it possible to change the values on the dimmer board to get a dimmer result than i have now? Or am i going about it all wrong!! Thanks in advance MITCHY

the switch is pretty much just a switch, that brightness is controlled by the bem, AU fairmonts have adjustable dash brightness, you could try swapping the bem and the headlight switch and add a few extra wires between the 2...
but its probably easier to change the dash globes to a lower wattage? iv never had a issue with the brightness of the dash myself... Cheers Cam

mine has adjustable brightness, i just wish i could turn it down further.
I had a thought of using some very light tint on the perspex over the guages. BUT thought if the tint was polarised it may effect the ODO. Will look into other globe options

yours would be 2 step adjustable, the fairmont is fully adjustable (maybe like 50 increments)

It's an easy fix!!! 1.0 Tools Required; 1.1 Phillips head and flat blade screw drivers 1.2 Cloths iron 1.3 Baking paper 2.0 Remove climate control unit from dash; 2.1 Removing clock surround, allowing access to retaining screw, remove screw, 2.2 Pull unit forward and to the left, unplugging 1 air sensor and 2 electrical plugs. 2.3 Unit should now slide right out 3.0 Dis-assemble control unit; 3.1 Depress and pull plastic retaining legs where appropriate 3.2 Slide unit out rear of casing. 4.0 Re-attach control ribbon 4.1 Pre-heat iron to sub steam temperature 4.2 Clean/ trim ribbon and contacts if required (do not use solvent as will destroy ribbon/ adherence) 4.3 Re-align ribbon with circuit contacts 4.4 Place baking paper on top or ribbon to stop ribbon melting onto iron 4.5 With moderate pressure, press iron onto ribbon and contacts 4.6 Check contacts/ test in car before refitting into casing. 5.0 Re-assemble in reverse order i tried it and made it a little better but not fixed, i know a few people that have wrecked them trying this. so try at own risk Cheers Cam
