You will need to build a custom wiring adapter loom that will interface between your dash plugs and the AU cluster.
Then you will need to trial fit the cluster into your dash and trim away parts to make it fit. A custom bracket to hold it in place and you are done. Have fun. Cheers BenJ

Ford changed the wiring between every E Series model, so I would certainly expect the loom to be very different in the transition from E to A series.

Actually, I know from personal experience that EA - EB1 are similar but not identical, EB11 and ED are not quite the same either.
EF and EL are not the same at all really, although the instrument clusters can be interchanged. The Fairlane clusters are different again. And AU1 to AU1.5 are different to AU11 onwards as well. Cheers BenJ

Cheers BenJ ok sounds like putting a ef fairmont cluster back in is the way to go i like nf/nl clusters but too much work involved |

The rewards of a custom car is there for those prepared to do the work.
I have done the NF/NL Fairlane cluster conversion to EB11 and EB1 and there is a lot of research and detail soldering to be done. But, it is all possible. Cheers BenJ

Cheers BenJ because my ef is a fairmont which i think is classed as a high series is there much diffrence in the cluster wiring like would the gear position work and would the door ajars be there already? |

The left hand plug is wired completely differently, and there is additional plugs and looms for the door ajar sensor wiring.
In addition you would need to add the door ajar sensors to the door catches, and run the wires from each door to the back of the cluster. If you made the adaptor loom, then yes the gear position indicator would function as it runs off the DATA Line from memory. A good couple of days work really. Cheers BenJ

I have an NF/NL cluster in my ED...
The wiring is way different... The NF/NL cluster has 4 plugs yours has two... The door ajar stuff is not in your car... No wiring no sensors... This is the last stage I have to do to my ED... I have a custom bracket as I have an ED and custom patch harness to make it plug and play... I also had to pick up certain functions from other spots... Everything will work including your gear thingo... But as I said the door ajar system will need to be added and the wiring modified... LCD & Illumination dimming should work in the car as you have a high series BEM... Up the top is resources > tech docs Some good stuff in there including this: documents.php?d=73 I can guarantee you that doing a NF/NL conversion will be 100 times easier than an AU one... At least the NF/NL cluster will mount straight up... See my build thread in my signature for ideas as well has Ben's threads as we have both done this and Ben helped me out doing mine... Cheers, Tim

I have two clusters I used various parts to make one good one out of... Around the $50 to 70 mark each... And the sensors I have no idea... I needed two car's worth as I have about 4 with broken tabs and 4 without... I also managed to get the nice people to cut the plugs off their door looms... You'll also need the reed switch and the magnet for the fuel flap...
If you pulled the switches out yourself someone would charge you not much... For me the issue was paying someone in the city for the labour as to get the lock out to unclip it is a fair effort and takes time... Ben... Do you know if the switches with broken tabs can be used? I have a few... Just curious if they can be cable tied in place of that is impossible... (Yet to pull them and have a look at them to see how they mount)... Cheers, Tim

Cheers, Tim thanks mate you have helped heaps so if i plug the nf/nl cluster in as is without chaanging anything at all everything will work except door adjar and boot/fuel adjar like all lights gauges and auto poition will work fine |

It will not plug straight in at all. There was a seller on Ebay selling a pre made adaptor loom, but can't seem to find it right now. Was approx $50 from memory. Re the switches with the broken tabs, I really can't envisage how you could keep them in place considering the tight tolerances around the door catch. Cheers BenJ
