my seats in my fairmont are pretty shagged and i was lookin at those leather seat covers on ebay that sell for around $550 but im thinking a cheaper way to revamp my interior is with a full set of au seats .. im half way thru painting my plastics in black while keeping some gray plastic... i got black floor carpet on the way ... so i guess my question is will au seat bolt into a ef with/without any hassles .... and pictures would be great if anyone has them ... i saw a au at the wreckers with perfect full set of black cloth seats which would suit perfect to what i want ..... any help would be great

You should do a search there's a couple of threads on this also check out ahh man forgot the guys build thread. He made it all fit up front and rear i think but the only problem was the bolsters had a bit of a gap and you can see the body on the door side that is.

Mate depends what you consider a hassel!
Not exactly sure about AU into EF, but why not EF or EL seats?

I carn't imagine AU into EF would be that much trouble......I have just put BA seats into ED without all that much trouble so your conversion should be a snack I think!

the reason i want au seats coz there shape is much nicer i have not given the el seats much thought i would think they are to much like the ef ones .... ba seats sound even better but im trying to keep the money factor down but im yet to price up a full set of ba seats so maybe that can be a diffrent ave i can take

as far as hassle nothing in a hassle when at the end of the day it all works out well .. but factors like changing seat rails and just general fitment issues ... ive pulled my seats out a few time and it was a snack .. the right tools make anything easy :D can i see some pictures of the ba seats in your car

BA XR seats are reasonably cheap ($400-500)
need to muck around to make them fit but it can be done.

AU seats are considerably easier.
Pretty sure you can change the whole rail assembly from AU to EF and it should work.

Hi Luxo Sprint, at the moment I am unable to find the camedia disc that came with my digital camera & so I cannot get pics from camera to PC,(which is a pain as I have stuff I wish to sell on ebay) I'll try to find a cable to get pics from Ph to PC or If you PM me your mobile # I can send some via my mobile if you like? otherwise there is a detailed mod I will can you a link too?http://www.fordmods.com/the-garage-f53/the-hybrid-eb-build-dohc-xr6-ba-interior-and-a-el-xr-front-t77902-180.html page 10.
The AU seats should be cheaper then BA's I would imagine & probably easier to fit as EFFalcon suggests. Keep the thread going & I'm sure other guys will be able to advise you better than I can on AU/EF.

saw a set of au ghia leather seats with all 4 woodgrain door trims sell for $500 on ebay not long ago so id imagine a set of velour fairmont or fairlane seats would be fairly cheap thesedays provided you can find a set in good nic.
Then theres also the grey pattern BA xr seats which would kinda suit a lot of e series interior colours as well.
Why would the BA seat rails be different to the AU ones as both cars are pretty much same body? I would have thought the mounting bolt location would be in the same spot in AU and BA's and therefore use the same or very similar rails as well? can someone fill me in on what im missing?

I believe the rals are further in or something as ashcook was saying he spowed a pic, crazy in the wagon particulary, but the floorpan I believe are a little different.

The AU fronts where dead easy to fit...

see here:

Image
Basically swap the mech from the EL seats onto the AU's and bolt them in the car.. the base and back are perfect fits.

The rear was more fun... had to remove the pins E series use to lock the rear seat backs in and make some mounts in the AU bollards so they would clip in at the top like E series do...

Also had to put some plasticy clips in that AU rear seat bottoms fit into on the floor under the rear seat base..

end result was worth it though.

Image

I should add that the car they are in now has black carpet and black seatbelts (not to mention hoodlining and a heap of the plastics and the seats blend in perfectly.
