The inertia reel retractors on my rear seatbelts are lazy and the belts are really, really slow to retract (if at all, actually. They usually just stay out).
Is there any fix for this? Or do they need replacing? This one is important because my kids sit back there, and I couldn't bear to see them exiting the vehicle through the front windscreen...

I'm sure they probably can be repaired.
But speaking for myself, where it comes to the safety of my kids, I'd much rather have new ones that I'd feel confident will do what they're supposed to. Also I'm not sure about NZ, but here in South Aust it's actually illegal to sell 2nd had seatbelts.. god knows how they enforce that, but it's there.

But you can probably go to Pick-a-part (self-dismantling wrecker yard chain - bring your own tools and get what you want) & help yourself. I generally don't cut corners on safety. Especially for my children.

AFAIK, when the seatbelts don't retract, it's usually a build up of hair and lint and crap inside the retractors. Your best bet is to open them up and clean them.
I've never done it myself though. |

Pulling the belt out as far as it can go then WASHING the thing with soap, water and a brush should see you keep the belt longer.

For pretty much no cost, try clean them first before you go out buying new ones I reckon

I gave the belts a spray with silicon - IT WORKS. Fixed for five bucks.
So yes, just cleaning/spraying them is the answer. Thanks everyone.
