how do you pull the guts out of the ef fairmont gear knob the chrome handle that is?

There should be a small screw in the side of the handle. Undo that and it should come out.

Theres a little cap at the back. take that off and theres a screw behind it.

I thought there was a screw in the back. I know GLis and Futuras had them, maybe not Fairmonts and stuff.

there still should be one on the fairmonts as well mine did . or ther might have been some that didnt have them.ford done so many changes you wouldn't know

If its a leather shifter, you'll have to slice the leather open at the back to expose the cap and screw.

A good sharp stanley knife will do the job.

You should be able to feel the cap. If not, get another shifter and use it to locate kinda where the cap is, and cut away.
