Hey,

ive got a lovely BA...second hand, had it for a while now...but damn. I have an annoying ac/heater fan, it ticks when on slow...and it drives me nuts.

its done it since i purchased it, and my father also has one which makes the identical noise..annoying. i was recently away for a month and when i returned and drove the car the fan was squeeking, that seems to have gone away after a week...but ive had it up to here with it. is the fan easy to remove?

i have a feeling its the fan itself, i cant seem to find any leaves or anything in it when i took the filter out and poked around.

also the drain pipe is blocked...where do i get to that ?

From underneath. Drain comes out at the lower part of the firewall.

Use a straightened wire coat hanger with one end folded over so its not sharp. Carefully push it up the tube to unblock it.

hrm, so that was a failed experiance.

i havnt found the drain pipe yet, but it is the cause of my problems.

i bet a lot of BA owners havnt even noticed what ive just found as of yet...but hrm its an issue alright.

the water has been dripping back into the motor that pushes the air out...its rusted right through really badly. unable to be repaired, so im expecting a replacement one here in a few hours $77 frmo the wreckers.

that explains the bad smell when i turn the AC on, sitting water...the dripping and the ticking noise. if only that pipe had been cleaned out a year or so ago. fun fun fun!

so...i still havnt found the drain pipe...can anyone give some more precise directions to finding it, maybe a picture or something? im looking forward ot replacing the fan, but...maybe not until i get this drain pipe cleaned out.

its above the gearbox on BA's. It moved rearwards compared to older falcons...

also where exactly did the water run out? im not really picturing anywhere no good it could have run..

it came directly out of the cover that holds the fan in...theres a small hole in the bottom i assume is to allow it to drain in the event of this happening, but it seems its been building up in there for a while just rusting away.

ill go look see for that drain when it cools down outside.

thanks for the link...BUT the car is a BA not an EL or EF...im told its in a very different location near the gearbox.

as far as i can tell this seem right as im not able to find it near the firewall.

still on the hunt for the drain pipe!

Hey mate...I had the same dreaded ticking noise in my BA ute, drove me 'round the bend...took it to service and they found it was the fan itself was out of shape and hitting on the housing. All replaced under warranty and now silent...Linz. (very common problem)

mmm yer, those fans dont seem the best. even the new one isnt perfectly quiet when you compare it to the fans in the EF-AU's.

I'm still yet to find this drain pipe...i might get it looked into today. i actually had a dream about it last night hahaha, talk about being on ur mind.[/img]
