Not really I'm afraid. I've had a number of domestic duties to contend with, such as rebuilding Media Centre PC, looking for a new house, and doing some house maintenance ourselves to spurce it up for selling.
In the down time I've still been on the hard slog weaving up a wiring loom - and ironing out some of the bugs (<cough>mistakes<cough>) that I encountered. On the up side, Vista MCE with the TV Pack or W7 MCE can now both use the EIT TV Guide that is embedded in the FTA digital transmissions, can support up to 4 tuners of each type, and now officially supports DVB-T, DVB-S, DVB-C and Analog concurrently - so no more s**t around manually configuring a guide to download from the Internet or tricking your MCE into thinking a DVB-S card is really a DVB-T card..... Hey, check out what ASL have started selling lately.
Pity they say it's for Auto's only - that rules me out. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-BA-BF-TERRI ... .m14.l1262 Lukeyson

Would probably work fine in a manual, as long as you don't expect to change CD's when in 1st, 3rd, 5th, or reverse.

So much awesome info here. I've read through the whole thing. Your build is closest to what I am aiming at. A few questions though:
I'm a bit confused where you ended up with outputting the required 15khz signal? Did you do it natively in your compiled drivers or did you end up using Soft 15khz? {USERNAME} wrote: The sync converter has evolved - for the better actually, to make my life easier and to make the horrible mess of twisted wires and resistors on the end of my VGA to ICC cable go away. I'm going to put together a prototype on Veroboard that takes a VGA in on one side and puts out the ICC input on the other. That way we can use a pre-made VGA cable to link it, and the smarts we need are in the black box between the cable and the ICC. So it will do everything - set the GND return pins for the VGA so the PC can detect that something is connected, take 5V out of the ICC for power, and do the hysnc to vsync conversion. That way anyone will be able to do it. Yes please! Did you ever get this all worked out? Which design in on the linked page did you use? The simple sync combining box? If you tweaked it at all, I'd be interested in the details. |

You might be able to do it with Soft15Khz with some display cards. For the Intel I had to build an IEGD driver. It's not hard - just lookup IEGD on the Intel website and you should find some bits. I've just never gotten around to writing up what I did, and it's been so long that I've forgotten bits of it.....
But anyway. There's a new version of DashCommand for the PC just released and that's spurred me onto getting a move on. I actually used the CarPC recently during Bathurst - we had the Telecast up on a big projector screen, and had the CarPC running the Windows XP Media Center V8 Supercar Bigpond plugin to catch the bits on audio in the breaks. DashCommand has the ability now to scroll through multiple screens - although it misses out on the accelerometer, lap mapping or GPS features of the iPod version. I am told those features are coming. I wanted access to some custom PIDS too - but no go this time. I'll keep plugging away at them for that feature. Firstly I needed to slightly remodel that front fascia. Not by much - I was close the first time - but I needed to fix poor fitment of the 3 x LED's (HDD, PS Status and MB Status), provide room for an audio Jack and relocate the USB opening to provide for a more robust mounting solution as the panel cover the USB jacks was free-floating and not ideal. I've finally done a bit more work on final harness assembly and patching, although my hsync/vsync to csync converter still hasn't been tested. Slowly but surely. Lukeyson |

I ended up going with the ArcadeVGA card in the end. I am using the carpc case with PCI slot from mo-co-so so it should all fit in nicely and slot under the passenger seat.
I've also soldered up my c-sync converter (although it looks like the soldering was done by a blind drunk guy - well out of practice) so I'll see how that goes once I finish the wiring looms I need. I have very little faith in my soldering and my circuit diagram reading skills, so I'll be surprised if it works first go. PCs are my thing so I think I have the easy part done. The hard part for me will be pulling out interior trim and doing wiring in the car... |

Does anyone have the required information (diagrams, pin layouts, sync rates) to do this to an fg 7"tft??? Looking at fitting a carpc from vga output direct into icc if possible

Good that this thread was mined as this tiny $25 pc has just been announced >> http://www.raspberrypi.org/
Well worth a look for car pc stuff & bloody cheap! I'll definitely get one to stuff around with when they come out

Sorry to drag up an old thread.. Ive joined this forum to try and get this problem sorted.. Ive tried a few different ways eg: VGA-CGA card (it wont hold settings once powered down). Has anyone got this sorted? Ive attempted to make a driver using IEGD with no luck. Any pointers would be awesome.
Regards, Dan |

I used an arcade VGA card with 720x480 60hz interlaced.
You can see the result in my gallery.
