Hey, just wondering whether its possible to change the the BA xt cluster backing light from the green to the xr6 blue without actually changing clusters? and if so, what globes/led's should i be looking for?

Cheers

You need to get smd leds and need a very fine tip soldering iron, not too hard to do if your handy with a soldering iron

May I ask why you simply don't want to upgrade to an XR cluster?

Apart from having blue back lighting, you also get the XR logo in the background of both dials, and the tick marks around the dials (in the silver part). Gives it a nice sporty look. It saves pulling apart the XT cluster and fiddling about with LEDs.

There's tech docos aplenty on this site about changing clusters over, so there's no lack of information.

coz from what ive read, there's a lot of work that goes into changing the clusters over, like, trying to put your amount of K's back on there, having to blank 3 lights out or whatever. id love the xr cluster, but for someone like me who doesnt have a great lot of money or doesnt know much about cars, changing led's i thought would be easiest. but hey, if there's anyone on here who can do it cheaper then me taking it to a shop to get done, then let me know. and if i do look into that, how do i go abut getting an xr cluster?

The changing of the LED's is quite easy if you are used to soldering and de soldering SMD LED's. The only other problem you will have is sourcing the correct colour LED's. For XR/FPV Blue you need 440-450nm LED's which are near impossible to find unless you want to buy 3000 of them.

I do provide a service of converting clusters, whether it be a reprogramming of a XR/FPV cluster to suit your car or colour changing of LED's etc.

Check http://www.degabrielle.com.au for pictures, there is even a standard XT cluster done in XR blue which looks great.

If you have any more questions just let me know.

Thanks

Matt

Well there is someone here in Newcastle, NSW that might know enough to do something like this. ;-) he just doesn't do it commercially.

auMatt really is the only one that I know of that can do this.
