Does anyone know what the 'Rapier Trans' is?
Is that the ZF 6 speed do you think? The 'Rapier Trans' on the BF Falcon is an 'optional' module between the Bosch ABS/DSC module on the engine-bay side of the firewall and the HIM on the inside. On BA's and 'non Rapier' BF's, the HIM connects directly to the ABS module. Mate, if that is the ZF, and it's hooked up via the CAN bus, that is one impressive gearbox. It can exhange any piece of information it wants with the PCM to know when to up and down shift. That's awesome! No wonder it get's such a good rap. Lukeyson < Edit - found reference to Rapier as a code name for ZF 6 Speed here, the post at the bottom: http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread ... ght=rapier > |

Yeah, the ZF is CAN connected, you can pull diag codes from it.
I don't know how much it pulls from the car to operate. But you can assume, speedo, rpm, selected gear (for the cluster)

the 6 speed is as said can connected, and it has its own module which is part of the valve body.

ZF appears to read Speed, Throttle Position, Brake Pedal Status, Gear Selector Position from the CAN bus. Engine Coolant Temp also seems to get used for the torque converter clutch. Traction Contrl events also pass this way.
But I'm diverging. I'll try and take this up in the 'scantool' thread. Now off to find someone with a ZF box so I can sniff some traffic.... Lukeyson |

The ABS module light now blinks 5 times, then 3 times - then repeats - before going on solid.
I'm on the hunt now to try and find what that means. I'll look it up, but if anyone knows the quick answer or better still point me to where the answer is it would help. Luke |

From W/S manual 'Occupant Restraints - Passive' - Light Fault Code 53 has two possibilities, either
DTC B1891, Airbag Tone Warning Indicator Circuit Short to battery or DTC B1892, Airbag Tone Warning indicator Circuit Open or Shorted to GND. I'll get the ELM box out tonight, switch to ISO mode (for the first time ever!) and see if i can pull out the DTCs. For both it suggests to inspect the line between the IC and the steering column Airbag plug. It doesn't narrow it down does it, but diagnostics like this are fun. So once again either the screw I lost is grounding the airbag, or the plug in the back of the IC is not in right. OR, I may have zapped my IC inadvertently somehow! Hmm..... Lukeyson |

Just for the fun of it, fired up the Video Capture on the digital camera and took a few sequences of the flashing light:
(a) Attempt to catch it while reversing out of the shed. Just nice to hear the V8 startup in the shed now that the XForce Mildsteel dual 2.5" Cat-Back exhaust is on. I got a bit shirty that the sun and the steering wheel got in the way most of the time. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... D=15281625 (b) Sit on the side of the road and count the flashes of the Airbag light. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... D=15282055 (c) And finally the fun bit, 0-to-100 with one hand on the camera..... http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... D=15282380 Lukeyson |

OK, finally got started today, on the LH door harness and mirror.
I thought I was going to have to get to the plug for the harness from behind the kick panel and started disassembling the interior - kick panel, glove box, trims - but then found all I needed to do was disassemble the door trim and could get to it in the gap between the door and body. So now I know. Anyway, here comes my activities for today in pictures. Lukeyson |

Disassemble. I am getting the LH doortrim off now...
Just needed a Phillips Head Screwdriver and small flatblade for prying off covers and power window buttons. Luke Last edited by Lukeyson on Wed Feb 20, 2008 2:32 pm, edited 3 times in total. |

And more....
Strong fingers, maybe an expired credit card to use behind your screwdriver to stop it scratching. And I think it was a 6mm hex head that was needed to take out the speaker. Last edited by Lukeyson on Wed Feb 20, 2008 2:46 pm, edited 3 times in total. |

And finally...
Get a smaller pair of pliers to take out the clips the hold the loom in place. And an extra bottle of patience and tolerence for dealing with bits in the door that you can't see, and in the door-hinge area. That's the doozy - it does come out if you squeeze and pull it right! Note that the Mirror Plug - with the temp sensor - had to be connected before the mirror was re-attached. And be careful not to lose the screws in the door frame - a magnetic screwdriver is adviseable. Also note that the door trim had to clip over the top first before being punch in hard back into it's clips at the bottom. Watch the Power Window connector as you clip it back on - you'll want that within reach when you're done and want to plug the switch back in. Very good. Yeah the door/body connection is a real PITA.

Well, not as bad as thinking the kick-panels and half the interior trim need to be removed, and then finding you don't need to.

Soon. V8's at Oran Park are on this weekend, so that's out.
I'm thinking I have a 3-dayer for Aug 25-26-27 so might get started first thing Sat morning. Assuming I finish my BF Harness investigations of course... Lukeyson |
