Is that written anywhere? Not immediately visible in the Workshop Manual unless I'm just searching on the wrong thing. Is it something from the User Manual instead?

here it is, i put it in a new thread so if people want to search for it they'll find it..

the bit about disabling it must be in the owners instructions though which i left in the car i installed the kit in... i'll photocopy and scan one next time i see one

That is both awesome and frightening.

Awesome because I've not seen it before, I can see now that BEM pin J2/4 is the Siren Trigger and pin J1/16 is the Bonnet Switch - two pins listed as 'Unused' in the Workshop Manual, but strangely had a Circuit and Wire Colour associated.

Scary - because if I am swapping BEM's to support Climate Control, it means I need to be aware of the Siren PIN requirements.

SO, the big questions now is, what to do about the BEM on a Dual Zone upgrade?

(a) Can my Black BEM be used and reprogrammed for Dual Zone operation OR

(b) Can a Green BEM that is normally used for Dual Zone be programmed to support a Siren?

In addition to that document I am aware of 0253TSB which talks about a fault in early BEMs and how to replace them, but also mentions that it was not valid for Black 'Alarm' BEMs.

The Black BEMS apparently have a 'Blue' ID and a 'Green' ID. Does anyone know what this ID is, since on looking at mine the sticker on it is 'white'.

While I'm researching elsewhere, I thought this bit of info might be of use to some of you:

Serviceable components in the ICC:

Low Series button Tune/Track: BA18T817A
Decal Low Series Temperature: BA18D557A
Decal Low Series Fan Speed: BA18D557B

This stuff is in a TSB that I was hoping would list the Part Numbers for various BEM versions - but no luck. There's also part numbers for the Air Register, Antenna Leads and Remote Key Receivers if anyone wants them. I just didn't think they'd be of interest.

i suspect this is why the newer alarm system is independant of the BEM

Mate, is there any chance you or anyone else might have access to some of these early BA BEM Part numbers and/or descriptions?

If not, I'm looking for any other way I can find out more information about 'Black BEMs', how to identify them and how to know what they can do.

If anyone is aware of any numbers to call at Ford for this then I'll do it. This could be a show stopper....

Er - this link might be bad news for this thread:

http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/Artic ... 41378&vf=2

A new car, WITH all the bits that I am looking to upgrade - resulting in cheaper payments?

Certainly, it's enough for me to go out and get some solid quotes. It's a serious option now at that price.

So I have to pay off my car AND a BF wreck?

Low WAF that one I'm afraid.

That and BFMkII has:

(1) The brakes I'm putting on INCLUDING beter rear brakes
(2) The Climate Control I'm upgrading to.
(3) 18" Wheels (I had considered them)
(4) Still works with the CAPA box I'm getting

There's a cutoff point where the combination of trade-in+discount needs to get to so as to make the payments cheaper than my current payments, and I know what it is - and I've been upfront about that to the dealer, so we'll see if he can do it.

I would need a black-bem with Green ID for this to work as I don't think the green BEM from a BA will support my car alarm.

Alas, they couldn't make the cutoff. The pricing was very good, but the trade-in was lousy, so no deal. They came pretty close to tell you the truth, and had this been 2 years into the future we probably would have struck a deal. But not this time.

Which means we will now return you to your normal viewing schedule...

I've just been reading the Fairlane/G220 ISG Training document. Short read, but wow, what an eye opener. Gave me some additional clues regarding the Mirror Dip during Reverse research as well.

But of interest in this thread is that I found this cool image of a HIM all opened up, showing the motors that drive the HVAC.

Check it out.
