Thinking of adding front footwell and rear footwell (centre consol) interior lights to my XR8. The front footwell lights appear to be easily made by using the same globe holder as the high mount brake light (black, push and twist variety), but on visiting my local Ford dealer, I have been told that Ford does not stock those globe holders unless I purchase the entire wiring loom (apparently the loom is outsourced to "Japan" and Ford receives the whole lot and just inserts in the appropraite spot in the car). Sourcing the rear footwell assesmbly seams easier as it appears to be the same fitting as the boot light (which apparently Ford does stock, but has to order specially).

Anyone sourced the front footwell/ brake light globe holders or know where I could get a couple (new)? Also, if anyone has attempted this modification, any tips would be welcome (I've read the notes on this website about this mod on earlier model Fords).

One thing I can think of is to have a good look around under the dash for the bulb holders, they could possibly already be there. To reduce the number of looms they need to stock manufacturers commonise a lot of them, hence the plugs etc that are unused in the looms. I know in the past the foot well lights have been there taped up out of use but don't know if the BA is the same.

IIRC, the XR's already have the front footwell bulb holders and wiring installed..... you just need to add the bulbs

Are footwell lights a cost option on XR's etc? If they are...what a rip!

only BAs with premium sound come pre wired for curtosy lamps. U'll find heaps of wreckers will let u take plugs of looms.
Its the same as the auto trans selector light on E series cars too...

The wiring does not appear to already be there, but the fitting to screw the bulb holder is (don't have premium sound as the extra $1,000 seemed just too much for a Ford stereo when the standard stereo worked - even with static on the front passenger speaker that Ford service can't hear).

I guess I'll try a wrecker, but a lot of bother for just two little plugs... Thanks for the responses

The Green / Yellow wire is +12V for the Interior Illumination (This is on 99% of the time, unless Battery Saver Mode has kicked in)

And

Black / Blue Trace is the Ground which is controlled by the BEM. (The BEM grounds this line when it wants the interior lamps to come on)

Ill look at the wiring connector diagram tonight, and tell you where you can pull these lines from (From memory, these lines are available from behind the passenger side kick panel)....

More info shortly............

This plug is located behind the Passenger Side Kick Panel.
+ Illum means +12V constant power (Except when in Battery saver Mode)
- Illum means Ground from the BEM.

Wire these 2 lines up to your bulb holder (and Bulb) and the Bulb will Illuminate with your interior lights.

We (Fordmods) had a doco back on Fordmods v1 that had instructions on how to add the Centre console light, and footwell lights, but it looks like we have lost that doco, possibly forever

The bulb holders can be used from just about ANYTHING.
Ford Models from XA all the way up to BA and Territory use em for different things.
Also they are used in commodores.
Typically they are used for number plate Illumination from these models, and you can get em from wreckers for a couple fo bucks.

Hope this all helps
