120um is a fair bit of paint, the factory paint on the exterior of your car will be around 60-70um, ( i went playing with the tester at work one day on my car)

If you want, you can send me a small test piece of painted ferrous metal about 10mm * 10mm and i can test it for you at work.

Yikes. Now that's hard core.

Pity I don't have any spare bits of metal on my car to cut off and send your way....

I've had to put some clear on my sensor surrounds to get it to gloss. They're just flat blue with silver flecks otherwise. It's the thickness of the clear coat that bothers me.

I'm half thinking about putting some 1000 grit wet and dry over the sensor faces to thin them off. Anyone think that's a silly idea?

Clutch line still not fixed. We'll get there evenutally.

Mirror Dip was always working, it was just user error. Or in the IT field we call it PEBKAC - Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair.

Here I guess it's PEBSASW - (Seat and Steerin gWheel). Not quite the same is it.

No, no, no.

It's always a problem with the 'nut behind the wheel'

Good work Luke. This project makes my EF/EL interior in my ED V8 wagon conversion look like a walk in the park.

OK, I finally have some measurements for the placement of the reverse sensors. I'll post them up shortly.

The key to this is printing out the templates to the right scale, and then the placement of the templates using the measurements.

You have to drill a 3mm hole in each of the locations. Then with the middle hole drill the out again to 30mm. The extra 3mm holes are for the custom key-ways for each cutout. I expect there would be a little bit of filing finish the key-ways.

Also, I got started on fixing my clutch line today. The cable is made up and ready to go, the side panels removed. I should be able to do it tomorrow.

It was just that I was demoralised at Frosty getting a puncture in R1 at Winton.....

Clutch line fixed and tested. First test failed and I thought it was because I had no clutch line in the dash loom, but it turns out I just had my pinouts inverted and it was an unlucky coincidence that the opposing pin was empty as well. Doh!

I pulled it out and put it in the right spot, and a quick drive proved it out. Cruise now disengages correctly at the slightest tap of the clutch pedal.

Now, onto the other finishing touches - enabling the side airbags and getting the parking sensors cleaned up, installed and working.

Get Darren to get some pricing on just new head rest leather covers - may not be too expensive.

I've been lazy.

Now considering BA RCM. I didn't even think about the leathers. I might ask now.

Well, still no side airbags. I guess I got burned out a bit with all that other work. Still a bit lazy.

However, I have put the overhead console in now, but decided to add a couple of extra lights. This includes the 2 x lights behind the sunvisor, and 2 x extra lights in the side of the console itself. I had to make up a custom loom to do it.

I hope it wasn't over the top.

No but the porno camera in the roof is OTT.

(the Fairlane's get extra lights in the overhead console. Looks the same as mine, otherwise???)

Nope, the overhead console really is identical to yours. I cut holes in the thing and put those lights in myself.

The lenses are actually identical to the BA Boot light lense, but the part number seems to be something that goes back to 1970's escorts and X series falcons, much like the rear footwell lense that goes back to the EA.

The camera is there so I can observe the kids during both the day and night while in the back. I often have to drive them 45 mins each way to grandparent-daycare on my own. The camera is a godsend, especially at night when otherwise I can't see them at all.
