So is there a male version of those plugs with both rows of pins? Because with the normal 7-pin plug connected there's no way to get another plug inserted there.
Has anyone seen the combined male plug? Lukeyson |

Don't know, never seen anything of the flat plug variety that's got more than the 7 pins.

Today's the day, I'm going in - cover me.....
First thing to do is the RCM replacement to finally get side airbags working. Next is the FPV car alarm. Boy, getting the old one out of the wiper cavity was nasty. Then finally the reverse sensors and loom. Lukeyson |

I spoke to a trailer salesman mate, says those 12-pin plugs are used for when the trailer has electric brakes, or other electric things to run (e.g. lights in a horse float).

It was a bit of a struggle. The side airbags are done - getting access to the 3 x 8mm bolts on the RCM are a bit of a challenge but I got there in the long run. Now it's back together all the on-demand diagnostics have proven out successfully with no On Demand or Constant DTC's.
It was the FPV Alarm that did me in. I struggled with dodgy connections for most of the afternoon. In fact the Alarm and Airbag stuff were in by midday, but the whole afternoon was spent tracking down a problem with the Alarm - the car would not lock and I finally tracked it down with a B1300 DTC on the BEM. And I already mentioned where the old alarm was in the wiper cavity. I had to unbolt the whole wiper assembly and push it into the cavity so as to allow me to remove the old siren....there was no way a would-be crook was going to disable that thing! So that leaves the reverse sensors still not done, and my window of opportunity has closed for now.... Lukeyson |

OK, finally took the thing off today. Man, the muck under there after 5 1/2 years and 120k of travel! But I found the outlines you mention. I took a snap on 'macro' to get it clear. Lukeyson

This is the guts of the towbar plug with the reverse-sensor cutoff. When I pull the old unit off I'm going to see how similar they are on the inside. There's a pic of where the magnet goes in the flip-top lid, and how the extra magnetic rood switch in the casing is hooked up via the two outboard connections on the main socket. Lukeyson Well, in the original plug (enjoy the dirt....) you can see that there's a channel available for fitting the reed switch. I reckon it wouldn't be that hard to get one from DSE or Jaycar, fit it in there, add the necessary wires and make a combined towbar/reverse sensor loom out of the individual towbar and sensor looms I now have. The greater question would have to be 'why' though, unless it was to save the $100 or so buying a new loom costs. It's too late for me, but maybe someone else might be able to take advantage of this in the future..... Lukeyson

Getting the rear bar off ain't that hard after all! I once had a quick go at it but couldn't get the firtree clips out of the bloody mudflaps. This time around I just cut the bastards and will replace them with neweys from Supercheap. Amazing how much easier it makes a job.....
Anyway, this is a shot mid-stream, just after I took off the bar and before I cleaned it up. I've since also taken the opportunity to spray a shed load of Tectyl 506 over the exposed joins which are showing signs of surface rust. Lukeyson

Guys, I have some bits for sale if anyone is interested. BF 4-Bag Airbag Module - I didn't end up using it and got a BA 4-Bag module instead....and my Factory BA Alarm which was rendered inoperative when I had to change the Black-Low-BEM out for a High-BEM for the DZ upgrade.
