Hey Guys,
My wife's EL Ghia seems to have some issues with the climate control. You can hear a flap move if you accellerate or brake hard, and it basically affects if you receive hot or cold air out the vents. I'm assuming its the Blend Door, now i don't imagine the blend door motor itself is to blame, if that was stuffed i don't imagine the flap would be moving at all, so i'm guessing they've become separated. Does anyone know if this can be repaired with the heaterbox still in the car, i don't mind pulling the dash, but i'd rather not pull the heaterbox if i can. also, if the flap is busted, would it be a complete change of the blend door motor or can you change the flap by itself?

id say the heater box needs to come out. On my EB the blend door shaft broke from the blend door motor. it can be changed by itself but no way to do it without removing the box.

Run the diagnostics first and if that comes up with the blend door error code, the flap is more likely busted. Cheaper and easier to buy a replacement one from the wreckers, i got one with the blend door motor still attached for $40 due to mine breaking cause the only other way to do it is to pull the heaterbox out, unscrew it all and fix it accordinally

it could be, the blend door motor or the accessories may have come lose as then the door can just move freely, have a look and see if it has just come loose

what sort of noise is it, does it go clunk or more a rubbing sound? i know when i replaced the recirc/fresh air flap when i accelerated and braked it made a rubbing sound as the vacumn from the engine changed the flap moved. but if it goes clunk then unfortunately its more likey to be the blend door.

it deffinately sounds like the flap is moving from open/closed or what ever it does.
I'll goto a wreckers and take a look at a heaterbox to see my options, then pull the dash and work it out. She just wants a working heater!

If it helps the flap inside the heater box is triangular shaped.
You will not be able to see it until you completely remove the heater box from the car. They usually break from where the plastic shaft moulded to the flap breaks at the top where it connects to the blend motor.

could just be a vacuum hose leak, my ef would switch from face vents to dash demist vents when i accellerated up a hill or just accellerated hard.
motor vibrations/movement would open up a split in the vacuum hose coming from the manifold causing the system to lose vacuum and switched it to the default demist setting. may be worth a check |

its the same with the automatic climate models too, if theres no vacuum to the main solenoid the default is to the demist setting

yeah but i'm not talking about it going onto demist, we're talking about the blend door, which controls hot/cold air.
which is electronically controlled.
