Hi all..
I've been thinking about painting some of the dash panels in my interior like quite a few people here have done.
What i was thinking of doing was sanding back the texture on the panels to smooth it out, then painting them, and then applying a clear coat to give it a nice shine.
But I'm just wondering if the shine will cause a blinding problem when the sun shines on it.
Has anyone clear coated their interior? and if so does the sunshine cause any problems?

sounds ok. But i personally don't like glossy surfaces on interiors unless its done like a factory finish like gloss black around the shifter or woodgrain and chrome etc. If you want to paint some parts i reckon it would look 10 times better if you left the textured finish as it will look more like a factory job and quite classy if done right. What colour are you doing it in? i like nice colours like black, greys etc. Colours like red, green, blue make me sick :x

but what ever makes you happy

Nothing too bright, bright solid colors rarely look good in my opinion, they dont come that way from the factory for a reason.

That's a good point actually. I would like it to look like a factory done job.
Maybe I won't sand it. I've got a few spare parts to practice on.
I was thinking of coloring it to match the color of my car, which is argon silver, but it's kinda bright. I'm not gonna do red or green or something thats for sure. maybe black? :?

Let us know how your's turns out leroy.. :D

Yes, not really.

Go for it.

If you're really worried about it, get some spares from a wrecked (cheap) and you can keep you'rs original and can change back if needed/wanted.

With my old fairlane, I sanded back the texture, coated with black, and then a few coats of clear over the top. The problem I had wasnt the sun causing blinding, it was the head causing the clear coat to bubble.

Thanks guys.

I painted the part around the shifter today to sorta try it out. Didn't sand it or anything, just cleaned it and sprayed a few layers on it.

I like the textured finish. :D

Yeah, I don't think I'll clear coat it.
I'll post a pic when it's all done.
