I have an ED Fairmont Ghia, the fan is not blowing hard like its normally does. You can still hear the fan on but its not blowing alot, feels like a speed 2 or 3 when on high! I'm guessing the fan is blocked, unless someone knows what else it could be.

How do I get to the fan and/or what do I need to do?

Any help much appreciated especially during this heat.

Cheers

For some unknown reason alot of crap gets built up between the radiator and air con condensor....
you will be surprised by what you find... bugs, feathers, hair etc etc.

Pull the radiator and clean all the crap out. spray water back thru the radiator fins
carefully (might help use some degreaser too), dont use too high a pressure to squirt it
as you might damage the fins on the radiator. put it back in and top up
with you favorate coolant..... good time to give it a flush thru as well
while the radiator is out.

Thanks for your response, just realised I don't think I was clear. I actually meant the fan that controls the amount of air-conditioning or heat into the interior.

Had radiator replaced last August but yeah gets crapped up quick!

Lol, thought we had it bad but you guys are doing it tough.

Could it be the resistor pack (whatever/wherever that is) that even though its sounds its on high but still comes out low?

Sorry if I seem a little noobie but want to get to the bottom if it.

The checking of the fan resistor is a good thing and I would also check the vent box on the left hand side of the car under the dash.
There is a flap that is operated by Vacuum and the shaft that is attached has a habit of breaking the crank unit off the end of it. When new, these buggers used to create all sorts of trouble. If you DO need to replace because of it, don't let anyone force you into buying the Ghia style box, the standard one will do as all you need to do is take off the vacuum switch and screw onto new box and you have same thing. :)

Bugger, just took bottom half of dash to get to fan! Where can I find the fan resistor, also I can see the vent box there is that the one with the white flap? Is that suppose to open whenever the fan is on?

Cause I tried it and it didn't open at all with air on/off.

Hope you can get back to me soon, wanna get it on the road by tomorrow.

CRAP! Found the problem, after reading papa smurf about the vent box. I opened the flap and a air filled pocket bag fell out that I use for posting items! Most likely got sucked up during recirc. It was deflated too, so I'm guessing the fan was working hard and it shut down or something like that. Was on my way to the wreckers to ask about the fan resistor when I thought I'd give the fan another go and sure enough bach to normal, nice cold air coming through hard!

Thanks to papa smurf and AU99 for your inputs, I would not have figured it out without your tips. I know it seemed like something people couldn't be bothered helping but I appreciate it.

Stay cool guys, I know I can now. :D

Now I gotta put the bastard back together, (centre console, radio console, glovebox etc, might have some screws left over, at least I can give it a good clean before putting together!)

I had the same thing happen to me during that f**k heat-wave.

I chucked a cigarette packet wrapper into the passenger footwell, thinking I'd grab it on the way out. I forgot it and drove to work the next day... had it on boost and was sitting at the lights when I heard this awfull noise errupt from my fan system. Turned it off straight away and drove to work in the heat.

I was speaking to a guy at work about it and he clued me up to the induction point up behind the glove box. "It'll be that f**k cigarette wrapper" I thought.... sure enough it was. No harm, no foul. Just stuck my hand it and yanked it out.
