Another thing i was going to try was die or paint on the back of the dials but thats a rather permenant solution, if it didn't work the dials would be ruined. I'm still convinced that plastic or even blue wrapping/tissue paper would be the go.
Damn, if only LED's gave out a wide angle of light. Well, in saying that, how would painting the tip (the round bit on the end) of an LED black so that light would be forced (in a sense) out ward and into the lighting prism of the cluster? Could that work? Remember, the idea of my project was to get a perfectly even bright blue light. |

Did you try those concave LEDs that are on ebay? |

Heehee, umm things have changed significantly. I now have a DL LTD cluster, so won't be working on the blue cluster lighting anymore.
The idea has been put out there, so if anyone wants to experiment with different materials, do so and let the community know what you came up with!

I see.
I'm getting some clear leds shortly to replace my blue ones, and I've got a transparent dark blue folder case somewhere I was going to use......seems its gone walk about of late though..... |

White LED's would probably work a treat with the blue folder material i used, but normal incandescent bulbs (even 3 watt) are that little bit too dim.

The only thing wrong with my lighting at the moment is that the blue leds dont show any of the redline or orange on any of the dials.
I'd expect with the bulb covers it'd be the same. Also the blue leds are concave ended, which doesnt spread the light very well, even though they are meant to. Each light has a piece of solid plastic in front of it, and I think this is designed to help spread the light evenly. |

just an idea but its permament
replace globes all together and replace with those little blue neon bars i seen at ricerbarn i aint pulled apart my dash yet im scared i wont be albe to wack it back together right questions do you think it would work well would they fit is the blub fittings soldered to a board or is there wires you and cut into ???? i wanna fit a lil blue neon bar into the transmission light area so it shows up blue p purple R ( blue and red would make purple i would think) and the d 321 would show blue i will do it this weekend and see how it looks |

I think Pyroay put neons in his cluster.
His were the small one bout 10cm long or whatever they are. The bulb holders arent soldered to the board, so you can pull them out, change the globe, install LEDs into em (which generally need soldering), or you could solder the neon power supply to one of the holders. |

The holders dont have wires, tho the terminals are exposed on the back of them IIRC, so you can solder on to there. Just have to put them back in the right way if you put anything other than incandesent bulbs in.
