hey guys just bought 6 blue narva led's PN. 47864bl
the bloke at autobarn suggested i buy these along with a tube of clear silicon. there is one problem with these i don't no how to install them cos there a weird shape there not like the ones i have pulled out. i cant take a pic coz i don't wanna take them out of the pack they cost me 15.95 for a 2 pack so my question is on the cluster what points are positive and what r negative and would u advise soldiering these onto the cluster cheers |

They're a replacement for the globe, ie they fit into the plastic holder that you've pulled from the cluster.
Not sure on the +ve & -ve points, I fitted mine, plugged the cluster in and 4/6 lit up. Turned the other 2 around and they're all working.

if its for a EF-EL you got the wrong ones
you want 47902's for blue they are also - /+ polarity longnose pliers help to get the pricks in/out EF-EL when you get your new narva leds have a look at the top to see which side has the cup(negative) and mark the flat side of the holder(the bit you hold and twist in) with a black texta get some 180 grit sandpaper and sand the tops of the leds flat and the rest of the led until it's frosted like in the pic |

Here is a link for you, we bought our LED globes from him, they were the ones to fit in the EL/EF not the EB we needed the wider wedge ones, and trust me they can't be that hard to change as i am a female and i did it in 20 mins

They'll be fine, you'll spend an hour or so stripping old t5 bases and soldering.
Make a little jig to hold the leg whilst you add the resistor and led, apply heat shrink to insulate the legs, and solder them to the contacts, then slot it in the holder. I've done heaps but honestly I'd choose a $25 box of 10 from narva. It makes it easier to slap the whole led unit in a drill and apply it to a sanding sponge to frost it. The BEST way would be to get ya bundle of 100, and install them in the cluster facing for the best possible light curve.

ok then didnt really understand what you meant tho. you said go with narva but then you said to go with the ebay ones :S
with the narva ones do you just have to pretty much plug them in and it will work but with the ebay ones do you have to do all the soldering and that? how come you have to add resistors and head tubing aswell ? |

3 steps.
1: Buy parts and manufacture, This takes time and is slow Result = Works. 2: Buy from a shop spend a few more bucks and sand them down faster with a drill. Result =- Works and is faster. 3: Whole new ball game, undo the cluster, solder the resistors and L.E.D's on the PCB directly and use more of them. You WILL get better light definition and brighter. Takes Longer, requires complete dismantling of cluster removable parts. Result = Works, Better and Brighter, To clarify the Narva PnP ones are OK, but will leave dull spots on the face as they are not spreading the light as well as a conventional globe. The Home made ones are 'home made' do what you like. The 3rd way enables you to focus the light spread on the perspex in the cluster to illuminate where you want it. Remember Light travels on clear plastic. I can't get any more clearer than that.

ok thanks for that.
i dont really understand about how to sand them all down, so im not sure if ill choose that option. with these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/10-x-T5-286-Blue-Dashboard-LED-Wedge-Bulb-Car-Light-NEW_W0QQitemZ300189612565QQihZ020QQcategoryZ1255QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem do you need to use resistors and need to sand them down as u say ? and with these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/100-pcs-5mm-Blue-LED-6000mcd-Free-Resistor_W0QQitemZ160199060310QQihZ006QQcategoryZ105796QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem is it hard to do all the soldering and that ? soz if i sound like a noob i just want to get the best option. you said with soldering you take the whole dash apart.. dont you have to take the whole dash out with the other option ?? |

Don't use the ones from Virtual Village on Ebay, they have poor light output, I ordered a set and they are not up to scratch.
Try these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 0168692347 I use these and have been very happy with them. I use a lot of his LED globes both T5 & T10 and are happy with all of them. Last edited by SWC on Sat Jan 19, 2008 9:44 pm, edited 1 time in total. |
