I had a thorough look with the search function and couldn't find anything on this topic...
What are peoples experiences with getting the boot/fuel release buttons to illuminate in the BAs, like the fog light button does? Is it just a matter of adding some wiring to the back of the button? Will the light "shine through" the button like it does on the fog light switch, or do you need to replace the buttons also? It does look kinda weird that the fog light button illuminates on the left, but the buttons on the right do not. |

Button's aren't thin enough for light to shine through if you put an led behind ... you could possible dremel out the white marking and fill it up again with a whiteish resin, then that would work.. lot of fiddley work though, might need to test on some old buttons first

Probably best to clairfy what model you are talking about
I know your talking about BA but happy doesnt hence his response! It can be done, not with teh existing switches though.

It's a BA XR6 MkI.
What's involved in getting fuel/boot to illuminate? Has anyone managed to do it? From the sounds of it, the LED behind the buttons wont shine through to the front (like the fog light button does). If this is the case, how do we get around it? Last edited by vertg0 on Sat May 24, 2008 1:05 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

You'll need to set up some form of pillar lighting - the light is shone onto the switch.
Have a look in my gallery - I made up a setup for the cent locking/fuel buttons.

I had a look at your gallery pics and couldn't see what you were referring to.

Ive researched doing it before to a ba and i bought supplies and figured out how to do it, Yet never did it. Using paint and got some mini stickers made for the boot and fuel flap. I had some territory switches as well that i was playing with i think.
Ill see if i can find them again to figure out the process

I think Lukeyson has done something like this, involves Territory buttons.

I have seen that the Territory fuel button does illuminate, hence you could conceivably use that button in the BA, and plonk a blue LED behind it and you should be good to go. Boot release however is going to be trickier, as the Territory doesn't have a boot button. However, if you've found a way around it, would love to hear it. |

The fuel release can be done using territory switches. you need the following.
Wiring/plug for 2 illuminated switches. Illuminated switches x 2 Fog/Traction button surround your need the wiring/plug because the switches are different. you need the surround because the illuminated switches are different size to the non illuminated ones. I have all the stuff here but never got around to doing it myself.

Nope, I've never done it.
Hey, anyone notice how the buttons of the right of the wheel in a BA are recessed into the Dash, but the one's on the left are not? The Territory is recessed on both sides. Bizarre. Hmm. There might be an Aerpro part that fits the back of the Illuminated Switches (ie the switches on the LH side of the steering wheel.) I'm not sure if it's the same plug that fits the ICC Video Input, but it would be close. The trick will be daisy-chaining the light lines from the LH switches over to the RH switches, since there are no lines to feed the lights on the RHS, and reterminating the Fuel/Block connectors onto the new plugs for the illuminated switches. That will be the only had part. Everything else can be done by getting existing parts and covers and swapping till it looks right. I think. I've got some spare bits in the shed, I might check it out. I may have confused you and Matt. Matt hasn't done it either, but he's got the parts already.
Personally I don't see the need for this, a few weeks with the car (i.e. a few fill ups, boot opens) and you instinctively know where the buttons are.

Also, it looks a little unbalanced having the fog light button illuminate on the LHS, but not on the RHS
