Thinking of buying these. Will they work in my cars electrical system? ie: in the trip computer. My car normally takes 12v DC globes, so will these 5v LED's work in place of the globe? (Sorry... I know jack s**t about electronics!)

NOPE, they will go pop if you put 12v across them, even at 5V they wont last long, you need current limiting resistors in series with them, should be about 430ohm your looking for 14v/430ohm = 30mA which is the rated current for most LED's like those

they will work with the right info u would be better off buying the bright onesfrom jaycar, you know you can actually buy these things online from jaycar its not rocket science you know

oh, i just read it properly that time, 3mm LED's wont nearly be bright enough, you need 5mm+ LEDs (and resistors to match the maximum rated current for them)

get 5mm leds, and a 430 or 470 ohm resistor for each, u can frost the casing for better distribution of light, (use search for that) but yea u def need a resistor, a leds operating range is about 28mA, and remember you have a foward bias voltage drop of about .6V because the led is a diode. So if you want about 3V across the led u need a resistor to drop 10.2V with or roughly about (given ur car battery is 13.8V) and then you can work out wat power rating of the resistor you will need by getting the voltage across it, which is going to be about 10, square it, so 100, then divide it by the value of the resistor, so 100/430, mean its going to be dissipating about 4.3W, so if i was you i wud be asking jaycar for 430 ohm 5W resistors that way they have no chance of burning out (A), altho if u cant b assed doing all that, std 3c resistors will work

Ok, what about these? Does "viewing angle: 25" mean that it has a viewing angle of 25 degrees? Will this work with 12v? And will I have to solder up any resistors and s**t to these?
