Well as inspired by another member who I saw his post about cup holders.
I went to pick & pay more(less) and picked a stereo surround minus the ash tray & lighter. I had to hunt for the can/cup holders through alot of cars & I found a Daewoo with the dash intact so I pulled the can holders out, paid $15 for the parts then went to Bunnings got me self a Ozito hand tool(imitation DREMEL), cut the rear of that useless pocket that every thing falls out of & a few mods to fit snug like smoothing, bought a cheapy hot glue gun & glued the bastard in. I still have the ash tray but I cant use it when the holder is in use.

Yeah thats great, sure bets my current cup holder location, in the main console compartment with the lid down when i'm not drinking

oh and how did u cut the back out? did you take the whole peice out?

I'm interested in seeing some finer detail pics, as well as any further info on your setup? <-- such as what others have mentioned.
It appears to be retractable but I'm unsure about your glue statement. Did you glue the front of the cupholders to the stereo surround, or did you glue the cupholders into position? I'm guessing the former rather than the latter. $15 for the parts is awesome value, well done! kapul, I can't vouch for Ben_Daui's setup, but in mine the rear of that cavity needed cutting out, and 1cm-wide "notches" out of the upper corners from the rear to the front of the cavity "roof". In other words I kept most of the "roof" of my cavity intact.

I cut the rear of the stereo surround where the screw hole for the ash tray is so there is no back to that useless pocket, yes it does lock when not in use & spring loaded, I had to cut both the surround & a few tabs of the holders that keep it in place, glued it into the rear where it was cut. from my 1st post :went to Bunnings got me self a Ozito hand tool(imitation DREMEL) This tool is for small jobs that a angle grinder or drill wont do, for the people who do hobbies know what Im talking about, what this hand tool does is like a 50 in 1 tool heaps of attachments like cutting discs which is how I cut the rear of the surround & grinding stones to get excess burs & to smooth out. s**t hey I'll have to do a DOCO.

Looks good so far mate, well done. Are you considering touching up the face of it so it looks more "factory"?

Well if I may try & make it more factory if I got time over X-mas but it does the job & I kept the original surround as it has the ALPINE PREMIUM badge on it.

Yeah that's a good idea, I used a spare surround for mine as well. Hopefully it won't be too much effort making it look factory. I got lucky, as I was assuming I'd need to do the same, but after sitting mine in the cavity and looking at it I figured I'd just leave it as is.

Your setup (from the rear) looks to be about as easy as mine! Once again good work with the cupholders mate.
Here's an illustration of the cutouts made for mine (from memory). The corner notches are to allow the screw mounts not to foul with the cavity (the cavity is too shallow at the edges but is sufficient in the centre, hence why the slab on top is left remaining.)
