Yeah ive got no heaters, no aircon and no vent control (you know those fiddly little vac lines that control vents? hehe - they dont respond well to boost). So im looking to sacrifice the main vents and the clock and fit a screen in there permenantly. Just need a dash to experiment with. Much like yourself - car is built for go-fast purposes. Should just rip all the carpet and plastic interior panels out. hehehe I dont think the time is far off from when I rip out the leather seats and woodgrain trimmed doors. Get rid of all the carpet- Everything! The seats are like arm chairs - fall out of them easily when cornering. The wagon weighed in at 1.88T last month. Time to do weight reduction

well brad, if you block off those vents, then wont all the air goto the other 6 vents in the car (2 either side of the dash, 2 in the back)?
and thats actually not a bad idea...are you going to put stuff either side of the screen so that the gaps arnt there...

We plan to totally seal off the vent that we'll be using for the screen, so there will be more pressure on other vents - but its not the same, and besides, still not a concern. And yes, the dash will be completed to give that factory look

This is what i've purchased so far
PC - $600 Screen - $1100 Sat Nav Software + GPS - $750 All that is left is the actual installation, and some odds and ends such as a small keyboard, USB2.0 hub, some USB extension leads and probably a VGA extension lead.

Most of the touchys are XGA yeah? Some ungodly resolution - 1600x1200 or something similar? (which would be 4800x1200 in "natural" resolution for RGB) Put that into context? I think my $180 screen does 240x400, or something similar. But you get what you pay for, obviously.

Some off the top of my head (there are more but I'm not that geeky )
VGA = 640x480 XGA = 1024x768 WXGA = 1366x768 (Wide screen version of XGA) SXGA = 1280x1024 UXGA = 1600x1200 (If you find an LCD that can do this, let me know! I only see them on laptops ) Hope it helps for chosing car PC LCD's |

Thats an awesome idea of where to put the screen. Anyone got a spare dash they want to sell me to experiment with?
It may not do the screen any good when you've got the heater on though, assuming your heater works, or are u completely redirecting the air?
