Hey guys,
Ive have noticed over the last couple of hot days here in vic, that my central locking goes nuts when i try to lock or unlock my car. Its just goes up and down about 10 times before it decides to stop. Im pretty sure it only happens when its hot because i cant remember it happing for ages (happened last year during hot weather). Any ideas?? Its a 97 EL fairmont by the way Cheers |

yeah well, its your door actuators. but yeah, mine does the same thing on hot days. kinda weird but i cant be fagged getting it fixed. i find if i manually lock the car with the key rather than using the pad it doesnt happen as often

Before you go pulling doors apart try pulling up the door lock knobs a little.
I had the same problem appear after replacing my window reg and I pushed the knob down a bit too far when I poped it back on. It locked in the shade but would cycle in the sun???

Mine has started playing funny buggers, where upon someone closing the passenger door, it will lock all doors.
Not good if keys are still in ignition Luckily it's only happened when a window has been open, but it's only a matter of time...

mine does the same thing! but only when you try and lock the drivers side door!
you can unlock and lock it from the passenger side, but only unlock from the drivers! if you try and lock it its going mental!.. actuator you think? or door lock knobs? My drivers door seems a little out of line... ? |

Id say it would be actuator, but that would only be a guess. I cant really relate to yours because mine only locks with the remote or from the drivers side. theres no lock for the passenger side

i had the same prob, my passenger door reversed it self for 2 weeks. so it was locked while everything else was open and vise versa. i changed the actuator on that door, with one from ford which has been modified and its been sweet. by the way they aint cheap either, $100.

Guys, I suspect one or two things may be causing this problem. Either it's one of your door actuators going on the fritz or perhaps a door striker not connecting properly when the doorlock closes.
One way of tracking down which actuator is the culprit is to pull the trims of each door, unplug a door actuator and then try to remote lock the doors. Once you have disconnected the faulty one then the other door actuators will lock properly as they used to. Then just locate another door actuator either new or second hand, whichever you deem appropriate. Or it could be a door is no longer perfectly aligned within the chassis and so a doorlock no longer closes properly on the chassis mounted hook causing the door actuator to disengage and retry to lock properly again and again. Good luck.
