hell all, i have a ba xt sedan, and i was wondering if its possible to change the side dash airvents. mine only have the top vent, not the lap vent that goes through the dash spears. is it possible to do a straight swap to the ones with the lap vent? or is there more to it?

Not sure. I think you can swap them yes. Remember, that you'll also need dash spears with the lower-vent cutout at both sides.

I have a 2003 BA with the lap vents on both sides. I think they were deleted for BAII and BF, but re-introduced on BFII. They did that on a few things - like the Memory Seats on the Territory that were deleted and then brought back.

Hmm. I stand corrected. I had someone tell me they saw them in a BF2 at a car yard and I never checked myself.

As you were....

I remember looking at a car yard a couple of years ago with my brother, and there were BA 1 XT's with no lap vents and some BA 2 XT's with them. Seems to be that ford were on and off with models that got them, same as illuminated window switches in XR's.

so even if the plumbing isnt there they will still fit?i realise i have to change the dash spears lukeyson, part of the reason for changing the vents. very hard to find nice spears without those lap vent cut outs. is it possible the double vents came in higher grade variants like the fairmont and such?

Sounds like it's hard to know what cars got lap vents and what didn't.

It also sounds like no-one really knows for sure about their interchangeability. From what I've seen, my guess is that you'd have about a 70 to 80% chance of success - but that's my own confidence level and nothing to do with reality.

We're certainly interested though, so if you are so inclined, we'd be interested in hearing more if you're able to get a few lap-vent air registers and see if they can be swapped.

If they can't be swapped, you'll be able to resell them again on eBay and make most of your money back, and we'll all be wiser.

I've had to take some risks once in awhile myself to see if stuff works.

Hi just reading this old post & incase anyone is interested-
My 02 BA has air cond vents in dash spears-I recently purchased the 3 BA dash spears in knotty mahogany(same as Ghia)
However when they arrived the outside spears did not have vents cut in them.
I thought oh well I will not have air vents-but to do this I first shut vents off, then dislodged rubber wheel that opens & closes the vents-from its runner & it then allowed spears to be fitted--Otherwise the wheel prevents this.
If anyone has a BA without these vents & wants mahogany ones let me know as I am considering getting vented ones.
:) Dave

BF FPV vehicles retained the lower vents, they always still had them. Weird Ford, weird.

have found out the vents can be swapped, its a matter of prising off the dash spears, and 3 screws on each vent. plumbing is all there. dont know why some cars got them and some didnt.
