Hi Guys, have just lost the only set of keys to the EL Mont. What is involved in changing the ignition barrel with the smart lock system? anything tricky or is it a straight swap?

If they are the original you should be able to get a code from your local Ford dealer and get a key cut. Changing the Barrel in the ignition requires a key to be input before you can remove it. |

I replaced the entire ignition barrel assy in my spare XH. I had no keys, so I dissasembled the column, used a small cold chisel to undo the three (?) bolts, and removed it. I then fitted a spare barrel assy from an ED, used new bolts with big washers to hold it in place, plugged it in, did the smartlock re-learn thingy, and all was well. Not a fun job, but easy enough. You can always have the keys matched later, if required.
Good luck.

That's not the barrel you changed but the complete steering lock and barrrel.
I was refering to removing the Barrel from the steering lock assy. |

if the door and ignition use the same key
go to a locksmiths with your door lock and have a new key cut, costs about $18 |

you have to take the suround of the colum . theres a pin type thing you push in on the under side of the barel . you will see a indent ,i used a thin screwdriver. the barrel cams out .i think i had to have the key in the barrel .not 100% sure. just wiggle the barrel .should come out . hope this helps . |
