hey all
just got a chrome shifter stalk, now i need to swap it over! any thoughts or tips to help me start?

Yeah...wheres mine b**ch?
Im thinking you need to remove the gear selector first. Follow your current stalk down and you see a ninety degree connection. Try unscrewing that connection and taking the stalk out perhaps. |

yea, just follow the stalk down into the cup on the tranny hump, undo the nut, wriggle the old stalk out, put the new one in and replace the nut
while you're in there, you might wanna replace the shifter bushes

after pulling the s**t out today, it was impossible to wiggle the old stalk off the stud pattern - any ideas?!?!

i assume you took the nut off?
how much force did you use to try to wriggle it off? did you try some WD40?

yep removed the nut & washer - tried with a fair amount of force, but was wary of snapping the welds for the surround. didn't use an WD40 though - might be an idea

got the bastard - thanks to a hammer & CRC to get the old one off, and lots of swearing & muttering to get the new one back on
lol almost not worth the effort! now i need a chrome nut!

Nice work Fras ! The chrome nut is from a DF/DL LTD...the EL GT might have had one too (unsure). Either get a whole lot of metal goodies and head down to an electroplater or perhaps see if some hardware stores (Bunnings?) might have some fancy nuts for you (no, not those nuts!) with the same thread ?

Ummmm, i changed a shifter stalk yesterday, all you need is a big screwdriver, and a hammer, a coupla light taps on the screwdriver with its head just above the bushes, and it came right off.

yeah that was what i did - was just a bit wary of damaging something thats all my effort was getting the stalk back on, as it didn't want to fit back over the end of the bolt very easily
